Powerbook G4 won't boot

Guys, help me!

My powerbook g4 (12") is not booting up. All I get is the Apple logo and that spinning thing that goes on and on for hours.

How can I make it restart????

Hold down the powerbutton for 3 or more seconds to shut down the computer. After that, I recommend either a) doing an upgrade install over your current system, or backing up your files and doing a wipe and reinstall.

Or, even better, I'll trade you it for my Presario

Yeah, just try doing a full restart, and if that doesnt work, restore it.

I can't install over, it doesn't let me. How do I restore it?

Try Zapping the PRAM first, I had a similair problem before after a system update.....

Someone Posted a list of OSX Commands for start up options...

I can't find it so I apologise to who ever posted it before not trying to steal their thunder.

X during startup - Force Mac OS X startup

option - (eventually) brings up a screen with startup volume choices

Option-Command-Shift-Delete - Bypass primary startup volume and seek a different startup volume (such as a CD or external disk)

C - Start up from a CD that has a system folder

N - Attempt to start up from a compatible network server (NetBoot)

T - Start up in FireWire Target Disk mode (very handy for plugging your Mac into another as an external hard drive)

Shift - start up in Safe Boot mode and temporarily disable login items and non-essential kernel extension files (Mac OS X 10.2 and later)

Command-V - Start up in Verbose mode.

Command-S - Start up in Single-User mode

cmd-opt-p-r - Zap PRAM. Hold down until second chime.

cmd-opt-n-v - Clear NV RAM. Similar to reset-all in Open Firmware.

cmd-opt-o-f - Boot into open firmware

hold mouse click - force eject a CD/DVD

Try the Two In red first, in that order (ZAP PRAM FIRST)

If none of this works, start it up using your OSX Install disc, put it in the cd player start the machine up and as soon as you hear the chime hold C (this may take a min or 2) when you get the welcome to tiger install disk shoot up etc. etc. go to the menu bar and go to utilities, drop down to Disk Utility first, Run verify permissions first if any problems come up, fix those first, click repair permissions.

Do the same with the second option on the right of the screen " Verify Disk" once again when this is complete if there are errors run "repair disk"

After this close Disk Utility and return to the utilities menu.

In the drop down menu choose "startup disk" this will list the available versions of OSX on your machine that it can choose to boot from.

Choose your main HDD version (click on it) then click restart below to the right in the same window.
