More Original Desklet Ideas

This might rock some people's boat, and sound a little rant-ish, but it's something I feel I have to ask.

Is there a reason that a very, very large majority of the Avedesk desklets consist of weather widgets, clocks, calendars, iTunes players, and status meters?

Is there any reason that anyone can't come up with something a little more original?

I've been searching for months for a desklet/widget that might be useful, and not just clones of something else I've already seen. Something that might improve my desktop, not clutter it with stuff that I can easily find with two more mouse-clicks :/ Something new and different no one has thought of before.

Maybe Avedesk wasn't created for that, maybe it's just supposed to look pretty and give you information that you can already access, but I think you could do a lot more with it that just that. But maybe I'm wrong.

Any thoughts on this?

they're also easy templates for people to build upon.

I've seen similar posts both at wincustomize and konfabulator forums. For some reason people can point out the repetitiveness but, there also seems to be a lack of more suggestions.

There are five news type feed desklets I haven't polished off for this specific reason. I'm running drop desklets to command line versions of 7zip, Eraser amongst others. I'm sure I'm not the only one with many varying personal desklets and sysstats configs. They just aren't releaseable the way they exist.
