Trouble with wallpaper - Flyakite the culprit?

Hey guys

Has anyone had trouble with changing their wallpaper?

The wallpaper does change when i click OK/Apply but it lies 'underneath' the current wallpaper - only when i log off and log back in or restart the computer do i see the new wallpaper. I know the new wallpaper lies 'underneath' because that little instant when you log off from an account, there is a moment when there is nothing on your screen but the desktop wallpaper, and it is at this point when i see the new wallpaper i intentionally applied (then it will resume onto the log-on screen).

This never happened in the early days of use with Flyakite, but i'm only suspicious because i am fairly confident i am free of spyware etc.

If anyone reading this feels otherwise, can you suggest some freeware to search and make sure i'm free of any infection?

are you using a .png as your wallpaper?

I've had some strange things happen when using one.

no, this particular case is with a .jpeg.

but yeah, i've had to convert png's to jpeg for wallpapers also.

Regarding the scanning for infection, just do an online scan, Trendmicro, Symantec, AVG or any other.

my suggestion is that if you don't have the computer savvy to either have virus software installed or at least know about the online ones, you shouldn't be installing software of any kind, let alone software that you know modifies your system files.

don't worry, i'm not that computer illiterate - i know how to take care of my computer.

And i don't back away from things, i try to solve the problem, not evade them - hence my query.

I've further discovered that all i have to do is show/unshow desktop icons for the new wallpaper to refresh and be shown, and from there-on-in, i can change the wallpaper to anything i want without hassle. However, if i log-off or restart the computer, i'll have to conduct the initial show/unshow of desktop icons. I cannot simply right click my desktop and click 'Refresh' - that doesn't work. Can anyone help me with this additional info?"

p.s. schmengie i had norton, but it expired recently. i've used ad-aware and this thing called SmitFraudFix, and got rid of some stuff which i researched and discovered had no business with wallpaper tampering and were timid. The simpe reason i am unaware to the trustworthy online spyware scanning sites is because i've never had to scan my computer - i download only what i trust. I know they exist, and, aren't some... fake??????? *gasp*

Isn't it ironic then, that you accuse me of not "(knowing) about the online (spyware scan sites)", implying that you know, yet you accuse me of not having the "computer savvy", that you have?

Hmm, never heard of this behavior with Flyakite. In my experience, "refreshing" the wallpaper doesn't do much. Try disabling and then enabling Active Desktop.

Go to Start Menu-->Run-->gpedit.msc-->User Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Desktop-->Active Desktop-->Select "Disable Active Desktop" and choose Enabled.

Maybe restart (your discretion), and then undo the steps I listed above. Maybe restart again, and see what happens.

It's cool... seems it's just microsoft acting up. Interestingly, all i need to do is 'Refresh' the desktop now - occassionally the computer boots to a grey desktop, and i cilck refresh to make the wallpaper appear. Just microsoft's 'boot-up panties' getting tied in a bunch.
