Webcam For Mac

I know its been possible on the PC for some time, but I have a cheap solution for a webcam for Macs Running OSX.

Unless you spend a fortune on a now discontinued iSight you may struggle to find a Webcam that works with OSX and that your happy with the quality of.

Well at the weekend I got round to trying something I attempted a while back with no success.

Sony do a USB 'Camera' for the Playstation 2 called 'Eye Toy' Nice neat little camera that you can pick up for around £15 GBP.

With the aid of a Program/plugin called MacCam (FREE by the way) I managed without any drama to seamlessly integrate the webcam with Skype and other OSX apps.

The added bonus is that the quality of the Camera really is very good for the price, not to mention the size of it.

Sony do 2 versions of this camera, The first Gen which is Black and the Second Gen which is silver and half the size of the first one.

I can't comment on the second gen as I am using the First one, but overall am very pleased with the results.

Anyone else tried this?

Q: I'm confused. Is iChatUSBCam a camera driver?

A: No. iChatUSBCam fixes iChat AV so that it will recognize USB cameras. Your camera must already be ready and working. OS X support is available for many old and new webcams. Check here if you need drivers.

Thanks for the macam. I tried it before with my Logitech camera and it didn't work, but since then they apparently updated it and now it works!

Yeah I must admit the first couple of releases where a bit none eventful, however the newer version appears to support a wider range of cameras.

Hopefully if enough people donate towards development of MacCam then it will continue to get better and end the hassle that is trying to get a cheap but good quality web cam for the Mac.
