So who took the plunge?

Who's buying/bought vista this week or already? If so tell us your experience with it. Was it smooth, was it crap, was there that 1 driver that just made things crappy?

I'll be most likely buying 1 copy of Ultimate this week, then doing the 50$(each) for the 2 addition Home Premium keys.

That'll take care of the machines in this house, so perfect setup, but pricey... so hopefully I can find some deal to make it cheaper.

I was looking into getting OEM copies, but I heard you're only allowed to have that copy of Vista tied to one machine (motherboard) ever... Though XP's was originally similar ms never forced users to buy an additional license. So unless I find out info on this pretty soon, gonna be stuck paying retail .

Nah, not really considering it yet. Just gonna hold off until everything is a-ok with running it in Boot Camp etc. I wanna run it mostly as a stress test for my MBP, I could care less about the OS itself

tried it out at comp usa-- seemed really slick. however, i'd probably still end up pimping it out to look like a mac, so why bother.

I upgraded my laptop to vista business last week. so far, I'm really liking it. I have yet to have a system crash or any instability.

I upgraded my XP MCE 2005 system at home with Vista Ultimate. (MSDN Subscription)

No issues what so ever. The upgrade did take nearly 4 hours though. It did an extensive scan of all the software on my system to determine if there were any compatibility issues. Only found a couple of programs that wouldn't work... I hadn't used them in a long time anyway, so I nuked them.

I did a clean install on another system and it only took about 20-30 minutes.

Both systems are working perfectly... no issues at all.

I'm really digging it.

Question: Should I upgrade to Ultimate or Home Premium? The machine I'm using right now (Qosmio G15R) runs XP MCE2005. The Vista upgrade advisor claims it's Home Premium compatible.

The other laptop is no brainer. (Vintage 2002 Toshiba Satellite). It can only run Vista Basic (the prettied up one).

The Mac Mini (I plan on purchasing that before the end of the year) will probably have Vista on it, but I don't know which version.

I was leaning that way. But the upgrade path is a bit muddled up with Vista. Previously, If you had 98, ME, or 2000, you upgraded to XP Home or XP Pro.

Now you've got 4 choices...

The fonts still look like crap in Vista. I don't know, it just seems they keep adding more and more to it, making it more cluttered.

I won't be. Not that I have a choice, really. Since my x86 machine is a PIII 500MHz, I doubt it will barely run.

If you don't use any of the MCE features in XP, don't waste the $$$ on Ultimate.

Interesting... the pre-release docs said most of MCE's features were only going to be available in the Ultimate edition.

Even the launch event material said Premium was supposed to have limited MCE features.

I love Vista....Its really slick looking. The only reason I even wanted to get a MAC which I did in the first place was because the GUI looked amazingly nice, I could really careless for MACS, I find nothing special about them other than the looks.

As for Vista.....It's VERY pleasing to the eye, unlike Windows XP which I customized the hell out of. I haven't touched Vista once in terms of customizing like I would with XP.

Everything runs smooth, no crashes or anything....I don't think I've really ever had one with XP Media cantre edition anyway.

No viruses or anything ass well. In which I'm one of those ppl that say....If you complain that your getting a lot of viruses, what the hell are you really doing?? I find it really strange that ppl say they get a lot of viruses with XP. And I surf the web and download crap A LOT with my comp and haven't received one yet, and If I feel I might have spyware....well I know what to do to get rid of it.

The only thing I can see ppl getting upset is the lack of driver updates as of yet for it. I have a HP dv9005 series notebook, and wow.....the driver situation was SERIOUSLY lacking when I first installed. But it should be better now (I had Vista installed for quite sometime now....not the beta versions either.)

I say GO FOR IT! You'll never look back at XP thats for damn sure unless your computer absolutely sucks, in which you'll be motivated to improve it just so you can run vista. And you won't look at a MAC the same way, unless you just like the design of the laptops they carry and their desktops.

Vista is a big hit with me. LOVE IT!

I have no problem with them, don't know why everyone has a fit about them. I know every single song of theirs is the same, but its better than half the crap that pops on mtv and the radio.
