[help] Vista + MBP + Gaming

I was thinking of posting this in Vista discussion... but underneath it said "UI" related so I guess this belongs here.

Is it worth buying and installing Windows Vista over XP on my current hardware for purely gaming purposes?

I own a Macbook pro

- intel core duo 2ghz (32bit, not the 2 64bit)

- 1gb of ram,

- 256mb graphics card

- 5400 rpm hd.

I'm currently running Windows XP for my gaming, but recently tried Windows Vista RC2;

-being beta software and having ran out of space (vista took a whopping 7gb out of my 10gb windows partition) I decided Not to install any games.

I loved RC2, but im basically thinking that Vista might be a bit too much of a resource guzzler for gaming purposes... but then again it does come with the latest direct X...

But Now that Vista is officially released...should I stay with XP? or should I repartition my HD and get Vista? and which version? $$$ is not an issue.

you will have to get vista sometime because you won't be able to play any of the new games without directx10 i suggest that you get vista but install it on a external harddrive that way you can have more than one game

Yeah i realise that... but im talking with my current games....

I wouldnt mind vista over XP just for the cosmetic changes but if it affects the performance in games then im not interested.

I can re-partition my hard drive, thats not an issue.

only certain games?....

will they work as smoothly? or would I need to get an extra gb of ram to support Vista?

^thats essentially what I want to know, whether or not Vista is more resource hungry than XP when gaming...

i tried several games of my xp games on Vista RC2, and the only steam (and all steam games) worked. I was bootcamping on my iMac with a Radeon 1600xt, so most of the problems were originating from a lack of graphics card drivers. I imagine that eventually all major graphics cards will be supported.

Sound is a different issue. Vista, if I am thinking correctly, is no longer supporting hardware accelerated sound cards. So that complicates things.

Games that run fine under xp with 1 Gb of ram should be fine.

Well thats good, because Half Life 2 is a favourite game of mine :)

.... will it run as smoothly?... I have pretty much no doubt that it WILL run, but I want to know that I can get the same amount of FPS at the same settings sort of thing.

I wonder why they abandoned accelarated sound cards?

I guess I will wait till drivers come out... i still believe that Apple will release a version of bootcamp that has Vista drivers, because fast forward a year into the future, most people will want to run vista over xp.... making an Xp only bootcamp redundant.
