firefox & itunes skin problem

i know this is like the most basic of questions but I've been stuck on it for a week and im VERY pissed off.

what it did:

-me downloads this http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/26417230/

-then me opens "firefox"

-me sees the .jar

-me confused

-me goes here and extensively reads EACH AND EVERY ONE of the stickies in the "aqua-soft forums > customizing > application skins" related to skinning firefox

-now me REALLY dumb struck

-me searches this site and osx-e forums and still comes up with nothing after hours

-me about to frikin bang his head aginst the frikin wall

-me turnes to iTunes skin

-me has already downloaded multi plugin from here http://www.osx-e.com/downloads/skins/multi_plugin.html

-yes yes, me has iTunes (me not dumb)

-me does the same as above (serch & find nothing)

-me puts "Niqu" under "iTunes" in here C:Program FilesiTunesSkins

-now me opens up itunes and Edit > preferences > multi plugin > apperance and under drop down menu, there is no "Niqu". just "aqua" "default" and "mac osx"

-me becomes creative and puts all the pics inside "6.0.x.xx" under Niqu into "7.0.x.x" under aqua.

-things just get jumbled and messy.

PLEASE HELP

For the .jar, you drop that into the Firefox themes window, there's millions of threads on it. If it doesn't install, then it's just not compatible with your version of Firefox.

As for the iTunes skin folder, that iTunes skin hasn't been updated for iTunes 7 yet. It's exclusively for iTunes 6.

well, the firefox one is also for older versions so il just serch for something similar. as for the itunes skin, il look for another one but i still dont know how to install them:(

It sounds like that Niqu itunes skin is for itunes 6 only.

You seem to have had it right, but it was just too old.

There is a way you could force it to display on iTunes 7 however. Change 6.x.x or whatever to a 7.x.x and it will be compatible, although it might not display properly. As for the .jar file, you could always change the extension from .jar to .xpi, which is a firefox installation package.

that's what i did. i renamed the "6.0.x.xx" to "7.0.x.x" but it was jumbled. corners overlapped buttons and half the buttons either had the wrong over state or wrong normal state.

as for renaming jar to xpi, i tried just right clicking the file then properties (or just slow double click) and adding ".xpi" but that didn't work. the name turned out "xxxx.xpi.jar". the only time ive renamed the extension was adding .ico to a bitmap while saving.

if that's not what you mean, then um what do i do? other than just adding an .xpi to the name cuz now i know that doesn't work.

Ok, let's say your skin is safari.jar. Instead of just dropping safari.jar into the window, change safari.jar. to safari.xpi,NOT SAFARI.JAR.XPI. Now just click it and it will install itself. If its not compatible, use Nightly Tester Tools to force it become compatible. Google Nightly Tester Tools to find it, ok?

thats where i get stuck. i cannot see the file in the state where i see the ".jar". Right now it's on the desktop and its just "NIQU" without the visible extension, there for i cannot hit backspace on those very three characters and replace the space with "xpi". i have tried opening desktop on the explorer and using all the "views" yet i still cannot view the ".jar". perhaps there is an option in the control panel?

oh ya and i didn't say "xxxx.jar.xpi", i said "xxxx.xpi.jar" silly goose! not to be mean

It'll be compatible, the only thing is that the buttons (pause, play, rewind) are pretty much the only things that'll show. There's a LOT more to updating an iTunes skin than that.

uhhhh...

your file name should now be NIQU.xpi. it's as simple as that.

You know what actually, nevermind...just use the drag and drop method.

The reason why you can't just name it niqu.xpi is because explorer is probably not set to show extensions. So either set Explorer to do this in the folderoptions or just drag the jar to the themes window of firefox. BUT beware themes for Firefox pre2.0 often have problems once applied with the add-ons and preferences window.

Took me a bit of work to get the synergy skin to work somewhat correctly.
