Removing the recycle bin messes up by desktop background

I removed the recycle in with gpedit.msc (I'm using XP porfeessional) and I logged out back in. No rcyle bin, but also solid coloured desktop. I tryed multiple times, rebooted etc, to no avail... what's going wronmg? If I pit the recycle bin BACK on, the background comes back........

instead of Using that, just use TweakUI, available from MS. It allows you to hide the recycle bin safely.

Download TweakUI from here, run it and click on Desktop, just uncheck Recycle Bin, hit Apply and you're all good to go

I think the problem occurred because removing the Recycle Bin also disabled Active Desktop. Google on that if you'd like more info. However, I also recommend using TweakUI, as its fairly stable.

Hmm...sounds like something to do with the registry possibly. I onced tried to use a .reg file to hide my recycle bin, but it virtually DELETED it from my computer (when i would right click>delete,it would start browsing for the recycle bin), so i had to get another .reg file and restore it. Did you try messing around with it by means of the registry?

Use TweakUI to disable the recycle bin, but make sure ActiveDesktop is enabled.

Look at the second post and reverse the last step (instead of "ActiveDesktop is disabled," set it for "ActiveDesktop is enabled").

Type "gpedit.msc" (without the quotes) in your start>run... menu, go to user configuration>administrative templates>desktop>Remove Recycle Bin from Desktop and enable that. Refresh your desktop and thats it. No need for additional software...

you can try my regedit file which adds the option to remove the recycle bin. This is what I have always used. double clicking this file will add the option to show recycle bin on desktop in your folder options > view.

I did not create this, but have always kept it works for me.

If you downloaded it from the first post you should have no problem using it with sp2. It is for sp1 and up.
