Folder Wallpaper..

I'm trying to get this script to work as I'd like to use that nice AquaXP.com stripe background but I can't get it running for some reason. I don't know if it's me being dim or if there's some instruction step missing.

Any ideas? :baby:

First you're going to need a .txt file with the following in it:

[ExtShellFolderViews]

{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}={BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}

{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}={5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}

[{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}]

Attributes=1

IconArea_Image=Folder Settings\Background.bmp

IconArea_Text=0x000000FF

[.ShellClassInfo]

ConfirmFileOp=0

IconFile=%ProgramFiles%\insert icon location here.ico

IconIndex=0

[{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}]

PersistMoniker=file://Folder Settings\Folder.htt

PersistMonikerPreview=%WebDir%\folder.bmp

After all of that, save the file in My Documents and name it desktop.ini. If it asks you if you want to replace the desktop file already there, then choose Yes. Go ahead and make sure you can view both hidden files and Protected operating system files and show extensions for known file types. Once the file is saved, make it hidden (but it won't totally hide yet). Next, make a folder called Folder Settings and make sure it is hidden as well. In Folder Settings, save any pic you want to use as Background.bmp.

That should do it for you. If you have any other problems, then maybe I can help you out. These instructions have worked for most people I have given them to. Make sure you re-hide everything and close the folder. When you re-open it, you should have a background in it.

[ExtShellFolderViews]

{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}={BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}

{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}={5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}

[{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}]

Attributes=1

IconArea_Image=Folder Settings\Background.bmp THIS NEEDS TO BE THE NAME OF YOUR BMP IN THE FOLDER SETTINGS FOLDER

IconArea_Text=0x000000FF REMOVE THIS IF YOU WANT BLCAK TEXT

[.ShellClassInfo]

ConfirmFileOp=0

IconFile=%ProgramFiles%\insert icon location here.ico

IconIndex=0

[{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}]

PersistMoniker=file://Folder Settings\Folder.htt

PersistMonikerPreview=%WebDir%\folder.bmp

thats all I did and got it working

My question now is how to set it as the default view for all folders???

#42274

Where do you put that code to make it do that? i cant find out where.

#42296

Ok, take your my documents folder as an example.

Open my docs, under the tools menu select folder options, click the view tab, scroll down and check, show hidden files. hit apply and ok.

In my docs folder, look for desktop.ini open that in notepad and replace what is there with the codeup I posted in here. Change the name of the bmp you want as a BG where I stated. You must also create a folder settings folder within the my docs folder which must include your background. If you want that hidden, right click it and select hidden.

If you want to revert to the white, just delete the INI file, it will recreat itself.

WARNING, folders like My music wont reset, you need to physically tell the folder what icon you want it to display, by right clicking the folder choosing properties and cusomize adn under the first section select what type of folder you want.

Hope this helps

This has been discussed before but I cant find the thread. If anyone can get ahold of IESHWIZ.EXE from a Win98 install take .exe run it in the folder you want to have a pic in and follow the prompts.

I uploaded the file. Click on the link. You will need WinRAR.

there is an app that does exactly the thing you want.

Problem is, I can't remember the name. :(

Maybe you can try looking @ download.com

Background Wizard is another app but if I rember right it will apply the same pic to all folders.

Weird, I had it all set up just as you did Photo 678 but no go. I was sent the win98 file and that works just fine but only one folder at a time. I actually tried to find Background wizzard but dothing much except obsolete links showed up. I've been wanting this feature back for ages, which is why I went on a search rampage. I now have 4 different methods to do it >.<

Ah, the joys of obsessive compulsion :boob_shake:

Thanks to all
