Firefox Extension - Tab Effect

I just ran across this extension, released yesterday, which's quite fun and works well for me, even on Firefox v1.5.

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/4258/

tab_effect-2.jpg

Think Cube Desktop Transition effect, but for tabs within the Firefox browser. I use the Tab Mix Plus extension and it seems to play nicely. I also installed it with about 35+tabs running and when I restarted firefox after the install, the extension worked without a problem. I was quite suprised at that as well. I have heard people complain that it takes too long to begin the transition after clicking on a tab but for me, with 35 tabs open and a ton of apps running in the background, the time was still well under a second.

This is on a P43.2, 1gb ram and x600 mobile ATI laptop.

Oh, and this extension's only for Windows as it uses DirectX 8.

very cool

thanks for the heads up

This is really cool. Gives an entirely new dimension to Firefox.

No problems I can see yet. I'll try it on my other computer and see what the results are.

Thanks for the heads up!

Edit: It works great for us Firefox 2 users...Plus it works fine on my older 16MB video laptop. Every bit as buttery smooth. I really like this extension.

great find!

The effect works really well on my computer. It adds a cool effect to Firefox. The only problems I've encountered with it is that it closes the browser when I have Objectbar 1.65 open. Otherwise, cool find.

Oh, I forgot to mention that this extension's only for Windows as it uses DirectX 8.. unfortunately, linux and OSX will have to be content with whatever it is they've got to keep themselves entertained ;)

No problems running even with other directX apps/functions.

Make the request on the Sourceforge site if you'd like to see it! I found this in the comments:

To make the Tab Effect speed faster, locate the content/javascript.js file in the plugin folder (in your home/application data folder), then search for the line containing the following command:

TabEffect.xpcomObj.translateToNextTab(back, 24);

Change the '24' e.g. to '10' for a higher speed.
