Mac Theming Questions

...Well I didn't, but my friend is coming over and she it letting me play with it. I am contemplating gettting one and I want to know what I can do with it. I also showed her some themes and what she can do with that, she liked it and wants to know how to do it. I had told her I knew where to go to get help on just that sort of thing. HERE! :D

So I have a couple questions:

How do I change themes/icons (guikits/themes?)?

How do I change dock icons?

Thanks,

-Ryan

If she wants guihelp, Aqua-Soft is a nice resource, but not the place to go.... send her over to MacThemesForums.net.

Thanks guys. Very helpful. I guess she'll have to be buying something.

I also found this webpage explaining a bit.

Hi guys!

Is there an alternative for Shapeshifter (other guikit themeing software)? I read in the Shapeshifter website that their app uses large resources because of themeing, but I want to change my OSX to a Milk theme. Please shed some light. Thanks.

http://themechanger.sourceforge.net

Themechnger is one, but hasn't been developed lately, no themes use the dlta format (you can use themepark and shapeshifter to convert themes to it, or ask a friend with shapeshifter), and I don't even know if it works on intels.

Also the creator of duality is working on something. But people accuse him of vaperware alot. (there is some nice svn goodness though)

@vkeios: The downloads are temporary unavailable in whitemagiclabs.

those aren't great apps yet....the other way is to get installers which replace the images so no HD space is taken up (or not alot). Most installers come with a revert function to go back to aqua. I don't think milk installer is available or will be. There are certain resources that even the installer can't replace. The only real software is Shapeshifter. It can do the most and has the broadest audience for themes currently for tiger and so to be leopard.

Is that so? Thanks for the info aashish13.

Shapeshifter 2.4 only uses alot of resources on Intel Mac's on login because it fixes the Rosetta apps bugs. It does some hocus pocus upon logging in. It does not really take that much resources if your Mac is up to date and has a decent CPU and some RAM to boot. I do have it disabled atm though - just to see how my Mac operates without it. Not much of a difference.

Of course one can work around the Rosetta fixes that SS2.4 does by using an older APE.(Application Enhancer) and then do some Terminal magic.
