Yeah, Ive been trying to get a mod of DirectFB to work for a few weeks now. In addition to real transparency, its does REAL SHADOWS!
DirectFB is wonderful. It supports most of the cool features OSX does. Too bad you need a killer Video card to make it work well.
Though im using XFCE4 in DirectFB, since KDE is yukky. 
That, and it didn't need to be ported, it works "out-of-box".

Bolero is a completely different X server. No more Xfree86 
Contrasura, you are trying to get it compiled for Slackware? if you use Slackware 9 I'll try to compile it and create a package out of it.
Yeah, if you make a package, submit it to linuxpackages.net too, so you can help others.
Also the configuration is a pain, and im too lazy to mess with it. But when I do, ill be transparency-ing it up. :rule:
Bolero: The only downfall with it is compatability. It doesnt have as many drivers as XF86, so some cards wont work. That, and a decent card is needed (read: no integrated graphics).
yeah.. ill check it out.. i have a geforce4 mmx..im pretty sure thats good enough.... hopefully its supported

I am not going to be able to create a packageout of it, mainly because all the support libraries (libmp3, libflash, etc) I would have to create package for eachone of them and I don't really have the time to do that.
Yeah, no problem. I got it to compile yesterday. Im just wading through all the configuration now.
did you get avifile to compile? I can't get it to compile.. I compiled DirectFB without avi support..

well, its nice to see that linux is becoming more and more primary with transparency.... which was the only thing it lacked. didnt newer versions of X (or kernel updates) already support Transparency? or was it not TRUE? or Minimal?
No, XF86 doesnt have any transparency. The coding on it hasn't even started yet (because it involves rewriting every driver). Offscreen rendering (which makes transparency possible) is scheduled for xf86 v.5.0
And DirectFB didn't just come out, its had these features for years. I use to use DFB on really really old computers so I could get X.
telmo: I believe I did, but Im not sure. I have a package made of it, but its just a backup package for myself, I don't know how much good it would do you.
