Aqua-Soft ForumsOkay, so I'm drafting this design for a CD player when I recall seeing in every disc player "Never Touch the Lens." I did a Google search with no answer so I thought I'd ask all of AS. Will it destroy your CD player, causing it to send the CD inserted to burst into flames? I'm quite curious cause I've never done it.

i touched my pioneer dvd's lens but nothing happened after cleaning it with soft, lens cleaning paper 
but i don't suggest you to do it :cool:
you're not supposed to touch the lens cause your fingers will leave oil on it. then you won't be able to read your cd's. nothing a little sandpaper can't fix...

Hmm...oil? Lasers plus Oil don't mix? I'm slightly confused
think about it: a laser is a precision reading instrument that needs to focus precisely on the data surface of the disc. if you get dirt or oil or chocolate syrup on the lens, it won't be able to read the disc. think about old time-y moving pictures: they'd put vasoline on the lens to make the starlet prettier by softening/blurring the picture. same thing with a laser. but, if you blur the light from a laser, the data is hosed. there's only so much error correction that can happen that fast.

once the "touched lense" quota is met, the main tube that connects us to aqua-soft will implode
