Safari vs. Firefox
I must admit I do prefer Safari, but it still annoys me when I come across a website that will not load correctly in Safari...
Thats probably the only time I use Firefox
I find that Firefox has the biggest range of extensions available and is by far the most customisable but...
I have configured safari to the point that is an equal with firefox (tab sidebar, acidsearch, adblock), and I prefer Safari because it is more consistant and better integrated with OSX than Firefox in terms of looks (it skins with OSX) and features (for example- spell check, keychain etc).
-Its only real let downs are that transparencies (eg- myspace tables) lock up the scrolling, and buttons dont skin on webpages the way thier creators want them too.
They are both great browsers, and I wouldnt blame somebody for preferring firefox over safari if it worked more how they preferred... but for me Safari better fits my wants/needs.
But on Windows, hands down firefox pwns! (even Internet Explorer 7, by miles).

erm... you do realise there are tabs for safari dont you? and a bookmark bar for safari? (no extensions needed, just check out preferences etc).

Agreed on both points, Although I would probably use FF more if there were more Extensions/plugins available to the Mac Version.
On the PC I must admit FF has some superb extensions and plugins.

That is until they release a version with Cocoa objects. I don't like the Classic Window-esque that it has on OS X. It ruins the prettyness of OS X. If it weren't for that and the fact that it uses more resources (or it feels like it) than Safari, I would have to go with Safari.
Really, I couldn't care less, as long as all browsers would render sites the same way.

I use firefox for the extensions. (and I've been a user since 0.6)
I couldn't live without adblock, flashblock, noscript, and my beloved 4chan extensions (one by damage inc and not4chan's)
And it looks decent with a skin and firefoxy.

did you know that Safari has many of those extensions you mentioned?
These are usually implemented in the form of whole programs such as Saft rather than individual extensions.
But I DO agree with you, firefox has a larger array of extensions (which might I add are almost always free), which allow for greater customisation and choice (unlike full programs which are made for safari).
i prefer safari because:
- it looks better (IMO) when skinned, it doesn't have that weird bugs with themes with black menu
- it is faster
- safari's intergrated RSS reader is, IMO better than that shipped with firefox
- safari stand
- piclens

I don't like the way Safari overrides the look and feel of most websites.
I've seen well crafted websites look like total crap when viewed with Safari because it changes the buttons and other controls to Aqua looking controls.
Why oh why did Apple do this I will never know. Make a COMPLIANT browser that can render stuff the way the site designers intended them to look.

Go to any site that uses form buttons with a graphic for the button.
Remember... I'm talking about a coded button, not a button with a hyper link.
Safari overrides the graphic and puts an aqua looking button in its place.
Same thing goes for data entry fields as well.
DIV placement is also not translated properly as well.
IE and FF read the coordinates and places them correctly in the browser where Safari ignores page margins and makes them relative to the desktop, not the actual browser window. :confused:
I ran into this issue while building my wifes online store for her jewelry business.
Everything looked great in FF and IE, but Safari would always mess up the "Buy Now" buttons and not render DIV and CSS info properly.
I did code to W3C standards.
That's why I don't care for Safari.
Granted, this was last year, and I haven't used it since. So I don't know if Apple has corrected these issues.

Safari is nice because it skins well, the RSS reader is nice, the bookmarks are set up nicely, has enough integration with OS X, looks the nice, and works the best for me.
If I had read this thread last week, I would have said Camino > Firefox > Safari.
Camino has the nice Firefox (meaning, Gecko) rendering engine, and it doesn't look as ugly as Firefox. However, something just happened and I just lost all of my bookmarks...:slant:. Really damn annoying, actually...guess I should probably back everything up now too.

sure.. camino isn't as ugly as firefox, but the fact that it can't handle rss and has nothing like dta makes it worthless in my eyes :/

I think Apple did this so that buttons etc are easier to find on websites and consistant with the rest of OSX... thus while Safari looks good in OSX, websites dont look thier best in Safari.
I was on Firefox since 2 years and I loved it. But when i discovered Safari, i felt in love with it. Firefox on mac is slow... Safari is not. That's resumes the question (sorry for the english)

safaristand is much more than just a tabbed sidebar, that's why it's so great. you can change window texture/colourize source code/kill gif/kill favicon/quicksearch/use the cool stand button thingy that copies current url in html(or markdown)/alter sites/make source editable

hmmmm .... cool... i've had safari stand all this time and never knew these things... except that you could drag links into it and they would open...
looking into those features now
that said, tabbed sidebar has some features safari stand doesnt have (to my knowledge) like forward/back and stop/rrefresh buttons on each thumbnail.
How do I activate spell check on safari?
I use safari because when I use the arrow keys to scroll in firefox its way to slow and I cant get the font to look right
