Sorry for bothering you. I recently purchased and installed Microsoft Office for Mac (2004). I started up Word fine, but a few minutes later (I had closed Word by the time), no Office application would start when I click it in the dock or applications folder.
Help?
Run Micorosoft's Autoupdate program several times until it's the latest version. Repair permissions, restart, and be happy.
Have you tried restarting?-NC

It was up to date when I did it, but I did try that. Thanks.

Also, if your using shapeshifter and you apply a theme some programs/appz wont open until you restart.

Thank you. I'm currently satisfied with OS X's current visual theme, but once I get bored of it I will keep that in mind.
This is a Rosetta issue and each time you have this issue of PPC apps not opening (yep, Office 2k4 is PPC still, not a universal binary yet) you can, either go to terminal and type "sudo killall translated" and then run your PPC apps... OR Just update your installation of APE to v2.02 ... be warned that updating APE will cause some disk thrashing on startup as it executes the "update_prebind" routine on every login and bootup.
After that its flawless tho.
Wow, I completely forgot about it being a possible emulation issue. That fact that it runs under Rosetta has been very apparent to me, too, because the Office apps start up very slowly. Thanks for your advice.
Yeah, I actually decided not to buy Microsoft Office until it's released as a Universal Binary--I didn't see any point in paying money for an app I know will not run as fast as it could. I'm currently using NeoOffice, which was really slow until I bought 2 GB of RAM

Actually, I wasn't planning on buying Office yet either. NeoOffice was going to be my choice as well, but my Dad bought my Office so I said "what the heck" and installed it. To be honest, I think Office: Mac fits in a lot better with the Aqua UI than NeoOffice, despite their strongest attempts. Underneath some of that eye candy, it's still just a Windows-esque OpenOffice. Microsoft Office doesn't run too slow, either. I can tell its a PPC app at startup because it takes a few seconds to start, but its pretty fast after that.
I agree Konstantino, the UI of NeoOffice is a bit off-putting. If I ever run into any more cash, Office is one of the main purchases on my list.
Still, free + bad UI > expensive + good UI, if both programs offer pretty much the same thing. Not always, of course

Haha, I agree. I'd be doing exactly what you're doing if someone didn't already buy it for me. I like the way you think, though.
