Failed Overlocking!

hey guys something scary happened right now. i'm scared. im shaking, and i dont know what's wrong. I logged on this morning and weant straight to my user...and i right clicked on my desktop. the menu was black. anything i right clicked on was black. the menus were all messed up. i was a little surprised so i thought it was just a WB thing. So i went i did the whole Apple menu>Log off Matthew, and then the computer...had like a semi-shutdown. i was like wtf and then i clicked my power button and my comp came back to my log on screen and then it flashed to my user and then back to my log on screen. So i clicked Shut Down computer and it did the whole the process. I then pressed my power button and my comp started up. But instead of the Boot screen, i saw:

Overlocking failed! Please choose your option:

F8 Run setup

F2 run normal values.

or something like that. im scared....i dont want anything to happen. SO i clicked the power button and i shut off the computer and then restarted again, and everything was fine....what happened here? i cant afford to lose data on this computer of mine....please tell me. :(:(:(

well, the worst thing that can happen is that you'll fry your motherboard. hey, wait! isn't this the same pc that you don't wanna mess with? jesus, dude. quit monkeying around with your dad's pc. okay, i'd hit f2 and restore the bios to the default settings.

no go to your room!

#434837

Geez, I hope you get it fixed, I think that run normal values just tries to start Windows and doesn't change anything. (It's Overclocking failed)

#434838

no this is my pc. but i dont like messing around with stuff. i dont wanna fry anything. and how can i fry my motherboard?? what is a motherboard? and whats the excuse that i saw this error at boot, but when i restarted again i saw nothing? how did this even happen? what overclocking? whats a BIOS? how did they get changed. cuz i didnt change them. i dont even know what they are. im so lost...

#434840

Hey! it's only a computer.

#434841

okay, you're either like 6 years old or having a joke or a total freakin' moron. two words: google and wikipedia. we're not the freakin' dictionary.

#434842

whoa man calm down. i just wanted to know what happened if and my computer is safe and this wont happen again...

#434843

Some computers I have seen this happens to them right out of the box for no apparent reason, I would think as long as your computer runs okay and you haven't been messing around with the BIOS then you shouldn't worry.

Oh, and Overclocking is when you try to exceed the set limits of your comp, can lead to overheating and bad things.

#434847

from what i just read, on wikipedia, it states that i tried to run my computer at a higher capacity than it is built for... which doesnt make any sense because i always run these programs (Objectbar, WB, RKLauncher, etc.) and this never happened before. I dont mess around with BIOS cause i have no idea what it is...im scared to log on to my user...

#434848

it said overlocking, not overclocking, isnt that a type of sewing machine?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overlock

you've definately stitched shmengie the wrong way

#434853

ohh...my bad lol. so does this all mean my comp is ok? ive searched but...what should i do now. im a little worried about logging into my user. im using admin rite now...

#434854

If you are running the computer right now and it works fine, then your user will too, Overclocking has to do with the hardware, which user you are using won't matter as far as that goes.

#434855

ok guys thanks a lot for all your help even thx to shmengie even though he got all upset :P

Edit: i was just wondering...how did this happen? i havent installed any new software lately and the only hardware i have connected is my internet modem and iPod. so...any ideas?

#434858

Im still having this problem on my other user. menus are black...i didnt even bother shutting down...my other user works fine, but my main one doesnt. what is the problem?
