Where's The Love?

I understand why things are this way in most skins, but Windowblinds does have options to allow for multiple styles for reasons just like this:

**IT'S NOT COMFORTABLE FOR A WINDOWS OR LINUX USER TO USE WINDOW CONTROLS THAT ARE ON THE LEFT >.< **

Sure, it isn't as aesthetically pleasing as having things EXACTLY like they are on a mac, but it is a graphical USER interface, and thus should be comfortable for the USER. ...not to mention that putting the window controls on the right makes sense...it's where the scrollbar is, and it's where the go button is, and it's where the toolbar menus AREN'T.

What this all boils down to is that you should just release two versions, one for the hardcore who want it on the left, and one for the rest of us.

why don't you make versions of all of the skins that have them on the right? it's not that either side is right or wrong, it's what you get used to. i, personally like it on the right, but i know that others like it on the left. the point of this site is after all to emulate the aqua look. if you don't like it, there are plenty of other skins that you can find on deviantart, wincustomize, and many other sites. or, you could just use a msstyle

Actually, in Linux you can move the buttons around into any position.

Hey man, I switched to left buttons and is very confortable, I can't go back right windows buttons! When my brother tells me to help him with his pc I can't work right because I close the windows by mistake when I try to move them o roll them... :6

Agree totally! Although there are tons of nice skins with right buttons (read VS,) once I got used to having the buttons to the left, and a rollup on the right, it's totally impossible to go back... That would be like riding a Fiat when you have a Mercedes :woot:

Then you would be lost on a "real" Mac because the button on the right doesn't roll up the window it hides the default toolbar. So any program that don't have that function doesn't have that button. When you add windowshadeX a double click rolls up the window.

Anyway to me it doesn't matter where the buttons are. I used to use themes where the buttons where in different funky places on each theme. And that is the beauty of themes. Being able to move them. For me when porting a theme I think it's most appropriate to put them where the original had them to be true to the theme.

Why? Only because I'm more used to it.

Before I had my mac, I (obviously) was used to having them on the right. thats why I had a little trouble when I first moved to a mac.

I wish someone would come up with a way to put the buttons on the left in msstyles, it's far more natural for me to have them there. WB doesn't skin a few of the things I spend all day looking at (3dsMax for one) and shellWM completely screws Max from end to end!

Unfortunately msstyles is the only thing that works properly on just about everything, shame it can't put buttons where I want them. <_<

OH yeah, I forgot to mention.... it becomes a pain :nuts: to maintain 10 billion versions of a theme in addition to different colors, squared, sunken, etc. etc. simply because some people want different buttons than others.

BTW, WB skins everything it's just some people forget\don't want to support everything. There are also ways of making it act like visual styles with some programs that don't like it.

If you could fill me in a little on where I can get the info to 'compatibleise' WB with my programs I'd be happy to have a go at modding the WB themes myself. I tried the usual WB force feeding the skinning on uncooperative programs but they just laughed it off!

It's annoying because WB has all the potential to be so much better than msstyles if I could just get the damn thing to work on some of the more obscure programs I use. I could do a search and sift through the 5 gazillion topics found but I'd rather be pointed in the right direction to start with.

Thanks if you can dump some handy links on me, if not, that's ok too.

It's nothing you have to do to the skins themselves. The reason why ms styles usually are more compatible with more programs is because with certain programs that are not theme aware it skins less. You can have this same effect by bringing up the windowblinds advanced properties and go into per application and add a per application and add to that one "skin only titlebar" (it still does scrollbars though and a couple other basic things).

Manifest files also help WB4 out a bit when skinning I found if you want to get it skinning more things.

Now, if someone didn't include support for certain thigns also you either need to add it or you need to ask them to add it.

when i first started putting my taskbar in the top (a couple of years ago) i wasn't used to it at all, now i can hardly use a bottom taskbar

u should get used to left buttons as well...

i juat hate windowblinds :nuts: that's why i dont have left buttons :/

ShellWM seems to not support different bitmaps for maximized windows (like windowblinds) so i dont use it as well...

if only WB or ShellWM supported them......:cry:

it looks damn ugly when you have a maximized window and you see round edges near the taskbar

the red button : closes a window (but doesn't quit the app)

the yellow button : minimizes the window to the dock

the green button : either best fit's the window to the content

or stretches the window to fit full screen vertically. (it doesn't stretch the window wider than it is.. and sometimes, actually shrinks it to fit better to the content)

and the blue pill button : shrinks the toolbar (not the whole window)

Yeah. . . I love Macs

-As for the original post though. . .dude, get used to it. . .it is an aqua emulation site. Besides, like everyone has said. . .you can get used to it, and like most I couldn't get used to my S-Bar being on the top, now I can't deal with it on the bottom. It really is a comfortable way of doing things. Heh, or learn keyboard shortcuts and screw the mouse all together (like me).

if you close the window.. the application is still running..

(mac's run programs differently than windows.)

the menubar will still say.. itunes (for example)

and you can tell it to open a window from there..

but if you just hit the "close" button.. it will not quit most applications..

just close that window..

Mac's are document oriented as opposed to applicattion oriented like a lot of other systems so when you close a window you are just closing a document not the whole application.

The "zoom" button toggles between 2 set sizes you make by resizing the window and hitting it. That makes more sense to me than mazimizing actually especially for larger desktops. I hardly ever maximize at all. I wish a company would make a function for XP like it.
