Disappearing Task Bar

Alright, so when you look at this topic you may think that this has nothing to do with software. Well...Windows is software, so I posted it here. (I may be rambling on about something you already know, though, so I'll shut up now).

Anyways, my problem -- my friend had this problem a couple months prior to me getting it, and we both think it's due to Ad-Aware for some strange reason. Our task bars disappear. When we boot up, the task bar appears as normal, and then after a few more seconds, it disappears. No, it has nothing to do with the task bar minimizing. It's not set to hide itself, and my cursor doesn't change anything when I move it to any of the sides of my screen.

How the heck do I get it back? I've been using ObjectDock as a replacement, but it has its problems some times (sometimes with memory issues in particular).

What happens if you boot up in SafeMode? Perhaps it's an external program you don't know about causing the problem--see what happens if you start it up in Safe Mode (no unnecessary programs will be started).

That's a good idea, I should've thought of it. I'll boot up in safe mode now and tell you where it gets me!

also open up task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) before it disappears, and check if explorer.exe is killed when it does disappear.

I've read about that before. Wouldn't that mean I can't open explorer.exe later on (because of course, I can). And if it does, I would expect the taskbar would re-appear when I open it. That's just speculation, but I'll check.
