Should I wait until Leopard? Apple's policy on OS upgrades...
The official release of Leopard is unknown, but Steve Jobs has said to be in Spring 2007. So, we still have a while.
I know (from personal experience) that you get a coupon if you bought a Mac within a certain timeframe before it was released (I am trying to remember, but I forget what the cutoff was) and you can send it in for the upgrade for $10. I did it (got the mini with Panther and upgraded to Tiger). I know this information would be more helpful if I could get you the timeframe, but I really can't remember. If possible, you can wait to upgrade for a cheap price.
heh ... problem is that there is no apple store in me country ... thats just a reseller am gonna buy it by. and i doubt that a reseller would give out coupons for cheap update ... or shouldnt i? and other thing is ... well ... i will be and am new to mac itself, but i kinda hate the new upcoming look and i loooove aqua ... so in fact id be glad to have a copy of tiger and be able to get leopard the way you described ... just dunno whether itll work by me
The coupon came in the software bundle that is packaged with the computer. Unless the reseller tampers with their products, you should get it. They will need you to send in the receipt so they can verify that you bought it within the time they allow.

I'm going to buy a black mac book soonly and I'm also waiting for Leopard.
Some "experts" claim they will release leopard on 24. march next year, excactly 6 years after the release of Mac OS 10.0.
I also heard about the coupon you receive of your local reseller when you buy a mac in a span of time before the release of a new OS but the guys of the apple shop couldn't tell me how long it is.. two weeks, four weeks?
It's so hard to wait for my mac book just because of Leopard 
It would be great if Steve Jobs released Leopard already on the MWSF 2007
If it was me I wouldn't be buying any hardware until after the Januarys event... I think Leopard will be officially previewed but not realeased untill Feb. March latest.
