DVD RW that becames DVD ROM and canot be rewriten

Hi!

I have the following sictuation that I classify it as Bizzarre.

Every DVR-RW (- or +) that I make changes into DVD-ROM and becomes useless for rewriting.

They can't be formatted, erased , whatever.

Changed recorder, software (now using InCd 5), but the result is always the same.

Once recorded, adios RW capability.

Any ideas?

Once a disk (DVD-RW or CD-RW) session has been closed, the disk is no longer re-writable.

If I recall correctly, this is apllicabe to Multisession disks. But a RW should be at least erasable. shouldn't it?

It could very well be your drive.

Some drives are not RW media compatible. Meaning their firmware doesn't support RW media.

rjohnstone, check the details in the image. I think that it covers any aspect about the drive.

Here's a good link about your drive.

Looks like you have an older firmware version. There is an update to bring it from GSA-H12L to GSA-H22L.

It's had some mixed reviews about burning different types of media.

Sorry again rjohnstone, but the article refered above, has nothing to do with turning H12 into H22.

If you had looked a little furthe you would have noticed that they do have completely different chipset.

I've installed a diff PC (with Windows Server 2003) + Nero 7.5 and now I am able to write DVD's +/-RW, erase them and rewrite them agaim. I am now able to even erase the discs that were burned at the XP pc. Btw, tested it with the same recorders, GSA-H12L and GSA-4167B.

It is definetely some piece of software that is messing the XP pc. Just can't find what

I was about to let it go, but it came to my attention that you say "we wouldn't..." but I nerver saw any of your time in this thread except for these lovely words from you.

I think that johnstone is enough mature to speak for himself without your help.

As per in your signature, you are in the need for your father to show you some more love.

random beatings are love. thats how you know they care.

Instead of erasing, you could have formatted the disk.
