I just recieved a letter from my internet service provider. They state in this letter that they recently recieved a complaint from the BSA (Which was enclosed) about me pirating a Microsoft Office application. The complaint said they have faith that my ISP will remove the program from being distributed further.
The letter I got directly from the ISP states that they are just letting me know that they got a complaint about me basically. They say it may have been someone on my account who didn't know this was against THEIR terms of service.
Personally, I think this is a little low. They send a letter to my ISP, not even to me, telling them to remove the software from me, basically. The complaint states exactly how dangerous pirating it. It's all a little bit of a low blow to me. There are many, many, many people on the internet who are pirating software, movies, music of all types. I think the BSA (Business Software Alliance) knows they could never truley stop pirating online. There are too many people in too many countries who they cannot control. They're going after the little guy here.
Funny thing is, I think this is just an automated letter. Hopefully it doesn't mean anything. I'd like to find out if any of you perhaps can tell me the seriousness of the situation here. The letter says the BSA can sue me if they wanted to persue the matter.
By the way, if you check the BSA website, you can find a big logo stating they'll reward anyone who snitches on pirating a program up to 200,000 dollars -- USD. In case they are monitering my internet now, I won't say how pathetic this all is.
