zip disk doesn't work

My zip disk will not work. I cannot open it from on my pc. When I click on the zipdrive icon in the My computer folder it does not open. After few minutes It askes me to format my disk because it is not formatted. I used the disk before this happened and it worked. It only occurs on this disk.

ok, the zip is probably corrupted or formatted for Mac. It could have gotten corupted for a couple or no reasons at all. I've had quite a few zips just go corrupt sitting on a shelf. Go figure. If the Zip is corrupted your data is pretty much ruined, but you can most likely still use the zip if you format it again.

I tried to formatted, but it warned me that all of my data will be lost. Is there someway to format, but not to erase the data and no my zip was not formatted for mac.

No you cannot format and keep the data! Thought some tools claim to recover data from formatted disks, i've never tried them and wouldn't bother.

I used to use ZipDisks a lot, but there really is no reason any more. Invest in a cheap USB key and you'll never have such problems again.

i have a usb key, but i need the files on that zip.

Did you try the ever-so-reliable "chkdsk /f"?

or instead of formatting with chkdsk, check it first for errors, and if that doesnt help, there are many floppy and hard disk recovery tools out there that can help recover any data remaining.

did you store the disk anywhere naughty like on a subwoofer? :P
