Lots Of Changes Coming To Objectdock...

Jeff's working on a ton of cool stuff for the next build of ObjectDock (v0.99).

With Apple starting to get feisty, we are probably going to take ObjectDock in a different direction. We do not want ObjectDock to be some knock-off of the MacOS X dock but rather be something that is flexible enough to be made to look like whatever you want. The MacOS X dock is nice but kind of limiting when used in a Windows environment. So we'll be making definite moves to take it in our own direction. How individual users choose to configure it will be up to them.

Some things we expect to have in v0.99:

1) Ability to have dock item backgrounds. This would mean that you could create an OpenStep style dock if you wanted to. We'll have multiple themes included (Agua, OpenStep, WinXP, etc.).

2) We'll be opening it up so that anyone can make their own docklets. The Docklet specification will be open so any other developer who wants to use it can put plugins/docklets into their program and be able to use ObjectDock docklets.

3) More skinnable items so that you can have more radical control over its general appearance.

4) General clean up of UI and more performance increases.

We don't have a definite release yet, Jeff's sitting next to me right now working on the docklet stuff, it's coming along. The goal is to make it easy to create docklets but have it still be powerful enough so that you can do interesting and useful things with it.

(Y) Very cool. Can't wait to see the cool things the docklet authors will think up. I'm just starting to learn Delphi, so this might be a good project to sink my teeth into.

Ok... this is a cool thing but call it "docklet" it's NOT that cool... <_< :6

What else can you call it. Docklet is short for Dock Applet. It seems fitting to me.

This is indeed great news Brad. I did recall Jeff discussing something like this previously when he was asking us for ideas of what we might want to see in the dock.

Unfortunately that was lost when Aqua-Soft's server went haywire and everyone had to go through registration again.

I am also looking forward to external calls that would invoke items in the dock as discussed in the NG.

First I would like to thank Jeff & Stardock for this great program.

ROCKS!!!  :)

Now for the question. Are there any keyboard or command shortcuts that

wouldallow me to set certain preferences in ObjectDock?

Keybord Shortcut examples:

CTRL-SHIFT-H (enable/disable autohide)

CTRL-SHIFT-M (turn magnification on/off)

command examples:

objectdock.exe -h  (turn on/off autohide)

objectdock.exe -pn (p= position n=1-left 2-middle 3-right)

objectdock.exe -m (turn magnification on/off)

Things like these would come in handy. Thanks & more power.

does this imply the funtionality is already built in? Be my luck that I

hit the keys to make all the icons disappear :-) will wait for the readme.txt

Brian

suggesting that if it were to appear the readme would detail use ;)  I'll

see if I can work it in though! cya cya

thank you for sharing it with us!

The new skinning stuff is what I had been asking for in Y'z Dock. :own:

#41127

I second the request to add drag and drop to apps and folder icons on the dock....it's the only thing keeping me from using OD now that the Outlook crash bug is fixed.

#41257

Starlets... ;)

#41258

How about Dockems, and the diet version, "Go Dock yourself" heh. :P:lol:

#41259

i went from objectdock to yzdock to mobydock to yzdock and now pretty soon (hopefully) back to object dock.

#41269

good move, IMO.

Its nice to see people come up with ways to maneauver around Apple's policies.

#41286

KkMenu has been using the term Dockling. Maybe we could stick with that since that was originally created with ObjectDock in mind.

#41288

Awesome. I went over to Yz for the Docklets; looks like I may be coming home :)

My prayers would be answered, though, if you had a magnification method as *smooth* as Yz as an option, though. It's just so silky smooth when you run your mouse over it...

Keep up the good work.
