Thunderbird with Gmail

I can't seem to get Gmail to properly work with Thunderbird. I did everything Google said on their help page, but nothing works.

I even download the Gmail POP Troubleshooter but it wasn't able to help me with my problem...

Everytime I try to get mail in Thunderbird I get timeouts from the POP server, I don't know why, my connection is working fine...

Go to Tools, Account Settings, Server Settings, and de-select "use secure authentication" Thats how I got it to work for me, and it seems it's you're having the same exact problem as me.

"Use secure authentication" is not selected

Perhaps check it and then uncheck it? That's worked for me on other software... :P

Still got the same problem :P

Hmmmn, that's weird. You could check out the WebMail extension for thunderbird. It's got support for gMail, as well as several other webbased email accounts such as Hotmail and Lycos.

I remember I tried to do this on windows PC a while ago, and ran into similar problems and found no way to get round it tweaking settings or trying 3rd party programs... hmm...

Sorry form my English but i don't write very well.

Do you enabling the POP in your Gmail account?

I see the help page and i use a different configuration.

Prove this:

POP

server: pop.gmail.com

port: 995

connection: SSL

user name: whit out @gmail.com

SMTP

server: smtp.gmail.com

port: 465

connection: SSL

user name: whit out @gmail.com

It's work for me.

Hi!

i've got the same problem... and NONE of the solutions suggested here so far seems to work.

one simple explanation could be that the server is blocking port 995 (SSL), which it does in my case (its a university).

so.... any of u guys have an idea if Gmail HAS to use SSL with thunderbird? or can it also use default port 110 with no SSL or TSL?

my other pop accounts work fine with thunderbird as client. really stragen that Gmail poses these problems...

any comments appreciated!
