Apple iPod Camera Connector questions

Hey,

I'm going overseas and I'm trying to figure out what to do for photos.

So far, I think the best option is if I take my iPod (30GB 5G) and buy an iPod Camera Connector.

Whenever the memory card on the camera nears full I will turn on my iPod and tranfer everything across, then whipe the memory card.

I dont want to come across any problems, so if anybody can answer these questions that'd be great.

- When I tranfer images across, will the iPod keep the full-res originals, or just the resized iPod versions?

- Does the camera connector work with a Canon PowerShot A70? (the link apple provides for supported cameras redirects to the support site)

- Do other companies have thier own similar products in competition? Can you get cheap counterfeit ones? (And how well do they work?)

- If I only turn on my iPod to tranfer photos, and nothing else, will the battery last 2-3 weeks if fully charged when I leave?

- Can I completely shut down my iPod, or do I have to turn off normally (hold down play) and stick it on hold and wait untill it shuts down?

- My camera is USB 1, and I have a USB 2 card reader, can I plug my card into the card reader and the card reader into the iPod, then tranfer photos, or won't that work?

If I come up with more questions I will post them.

As well as answering teh questions, if somebody could tell me the pros & cons about the camera connector that'd be really good too.

The biggest flaw in the camera connector idea is that it drains the battery like you wouldn't believe iPod and Camera.

But first what size memory cards are you using?

I bought a camera connector to use with my Canon 350D SLR camera, it worked like a dream, (or do I mean Nightmare) however the smallest card I use with that is 1GB and the biggest 4GB. I am not kidding when I tell you it took almost 30mins to transfer about 1GB and thats using very fast Memory Cards. After those 30mins my iPod was gasping for its last few volts from the battery and needed a damn good charge.

The iPod stores the photos in their original format and are just drag and dropped when you hook it up to your computer.

To cut a long story short.... I sold it, and bought more memory cards.

The other thing that is possible is that unless you go to a remote desert or third world country you will find a 'Photo Shop/Printing Booth' almost anywhere, these places will usually gladly download you images to a CD for a very small fee and some friendly chat.

A friend recently went to Prague and forgot to erase his memory card from a previous trip, thinking he was going to have to buy a new memory card whilst out there he wandered into a computer shop and in pigeon English and sign language managed to get the guy behind the counter to download his pics to a CD for 12p (35c).

I have tried the third party Belkin models as well, they are huge in comparison and even slower.

Quite disappointing really because its such a cracking idea.

Damn.

Well, I am going to vietnam, and I have no idea what they will have there in the line of those photo printing/cd burnign etc computers, or if they will have cd burners at internet cafe's, etc.

Does anybody know if they would?

Also, I think if they didn't you should bve able to get somebody in a shop to do it for you if you pay them. In poor countried it would cost you close to nothing, and it'd be great for teh guy who did it.

I've been using Camera Connector with my 20GB 4G iPod, I've been happy man.

1) It keeps all the High Resolution images, and unless the files are Tiff/RAW format it shows preview on iPod. In case of TIFF / RAW files, it will just store them on iPod.

2) It should support A70, although I'd say do some research on the same... afterall Google is thy friend.

3) You get similar product from Belkin and some other iPod accesory maker, not sure about their performance.

4) This is serious issue, it seriously drains life outta iPod. So daily charge is recommended.

5) Just shut down normally and stick the hold key.

6) It will Work !!

@Wuzzie: there are lots of internet cafe there, as well as lots of WIFI cafe (places where you can bring your own laptops/PDAs to access the internet)
