Problems with burning dvds

Hey,

I have a Targa laptop with a dvd burner, and today I was trying to burn some data

on a dvd. I inserted the dvd and when I clicked burn in nero it said I had inserted a

cd-r disk instead of a dvd-r. I took the disk out and put it back in again, and the

whole pc froze. Now every time I put a blank dvd in the drive can't seem to spin up

and the whole thing freezes. The drive works fine with other discs, and I've tried

several blank dvds but it always happens.

Thanks,

Gabriel.

which data r u trying to burn, huh!

can u be alittle more specific?

I'm trying to burn a bunch of folders with avi files in them, but the laptop hangs

even when nero isn't started and I just put the dvd in. This is driving me crazy. On

a mac you just put a dvd in, burn it, and take it out. On this windows pc I've been

trying to burn the fecking dvd for 3 hours now. :<

Btw, I updated the drive's firmware but that didn't help.

well,it happened to me with the version of nero i got with the drive,im not sure which one, but then a friend gave me a different one, since then its been fine,

try a new version of nero....

or maybe i different burning software like easy cd or sumthin, might fix the problem,

[edit] : also faulty media can do this to ure system,

i bought some unbranded dvds once and NONE of them worked,i was forced to throw em in the trash and get branded ones, sometimes an entire spindle can be bad media....u never know.

Well, this is the second spindle of 25 blank dvds I've gone through and they all produce the same

result. Is it possible that I just got damaged dvds twice by coincidence? O_o

sounds like you wasted all your dvds on a bad drive

#427243

Have you tried doing this with other programs?

If not, I've found that Deep Burner (http://www.deepburner.com) is the best freeware burning program out there.

It's worth a shot... I hope it works for you

I haven't tried other programs, but the thing freezes even when I put a dvd in with absolutly

nothing running. If I have a blank dvd in the drive it won't boot up either.

I tried using the old spindle of dvds that I bought, and when I put one of those in everything behaves

the way it should and I burned the data ok, but the dvd just freezes the PC when I put it in later.

When I put the burned dvd in my mac it just spits it out right away.

again, it sounds like it's the drive
