iTunes 7 back to iTunes 6

First off, I'd like to say that I just joined this forum! I've been lurking around for a while but now I believe I have enough input to redistribute my things.

Firstly, this tutorial is made by me. No plagiarism. I have a few other names on forums such as Halo Calvin, The Slayer, and Sniper 13. I have made this tutorial because I find that the new iTunes stinks and I probably presume that most of you agree with me. I made this tut but it wasn't getting any attention so I thought I would redistribute it to you guys and you guys will redistribute it onward

This is for both Mac's and PC's by the way:

"After the release of iTunes 7, people thought, is this really better than the older version? Truth is, no! PC's have been experiencing numbers of problems and glitches with iTunes 7 (well they are PC's). Wouldn't it be great if we could go back to those shiny buttons, better gui, better icons, and less glitching iTunes that we loved from the original iTunes. Well, we from [H3] have got some way s for you to get back that aqualicious program:" - www.halocalvin.co.nr and into the news page.

For further information for how to get your Mac, or your PC back to the Aqualicious style of iTunes 6 go here: www.halocalvin.co.nr and into the news page!

P.S. Guys isn't anyone going to answer? First time joining and no replies?

I thought this was going to be about downgrading to iTunes 6 from iTunes 7, not reverting the GUI back to 6. If you want to actually downgrade, iTunes backs up your old library (i.e. the XML files) in your music folder. Just quit iTunes, trash the newer iTunes folder, replace the old folder, and re-install iTunes from your OS X installation disc. Pretty simple actually...I was relieved that I could do this after deciding iTunes 7 is pure crap.

I'm with you skip...iTunes 7 sucks...NO AQUA! WTF!

To me, the GUI was just icing on the cake. What annoyed me most was what was, IMO, shoddy organization of video files. I have 250 music videos, 60 movies, and 350 TV episodes in my iTunes, and version 7 scattered them around with no real method to the madness...the music videos were actually hidden from view completely. Too much attention to eye candy, not enough on functionality.

godpunk you don't have a smart playlist called "music videos" ?

i think itunes7 is better then 6 which listed them all under "music"

I try to stay away from smart playlists...I generally only use them to group all the 5 star songs in my library. And besides, it seems that if it's a video, it should be in the video library, not floating around requiring a smart playlist to find.

Just a matter of personal preference.

I think iTunes 7 is the best iTunes ever. But I don't like the new User Interface. I love the new blue iTunes logo and Cover Flow and all these nice new features BUT there's no aqua!!! :( I hope aqua doesn't get lost in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Oh, and I don't like the color of the selection in the overview of you playlists. It' black! Reminds me of vista, looks exactly like vista! Same in the Party Jukebox!! (Selection of the playing Song)

I second that iTunes 7 is better than 6 and 'the best' once;...

*you have changed the look back to how it was in 6 (to aqua, theres no shortage of programs/mods out there)

* you get yourself a free itunes account to get cover art.... otherwise whats the point of upgrading to 7 over 6???

* You get yourself a mac... for some reason its wayyy to glitchy on PC.

... That said it still has its shortcomings over 6, even once you have done the above;

* Where on Earth did my equaliser, full screen, visualiser and mini store buttons go??? ... yes yes, I know they are in the menus... but in 6, I used these buttons all the time, and now they are gone and I dont use these great features as often because of the annoyance.

Is there any way to get these buttons back?!?

jeez, your such a perfectionist... ;)

i've noticed that itunes seems to take a very long time reading folders [to process albumart - how do i disable that?] and even longer to update my ipod, even if there is only 1 new file..

I agree, but i think the issue is Apple's Aqua has been out for 6ish years now. As nice as it might be (i'm not hating i'm a mac user), they need to do something different or else they're going to get stuck. I think they realized how popular Web 2.0 is, pasty colors and what not, and are trying to move in that direction, which iTunes 7 is a good example of. It'll be interesting to see what else changes when 10.5 comes out.

hi,

i was having loads of problems with itunes 7 and have finally got round to reverting back to 6, which is now working well.

i know it's just a small thing, but although everything else has reverted, the mp3 icon associated with itunes has remained as 7's blue one rather than having returned to 6's green one. i use iphile to change quite a lot of my icons and i've set that to use the old green icon with mp3s, but when i set them to open with itunes they change to the blue icon.

does anyone know which file needs to be modified/deleted to get itunes to revert to the green icon for mp3 files?

cheers

jon
