iPod 6 gen rumoured to be coming this December (touch screen)

Alright i was randomly surfing and i came across a little story about a person who spoke to a person who works with apple. It seems like a load of bull to me but i thought i'd post it anyway.

The author of the article seems to believe this apple-dude so he might be telling the truth or he might be some sad git wanting attention (the same could be said about the author).

heres another article sort of going along the same lines

Last time I spoke to someone who worked on the mac pro's software for handling the intel chip, He told me of the ipods and how they were merging, and everything about the mac pro, and all he said 5 months prior to the release of both, was true. So yea. Dunno bout this tho ay

And what about usability issues? The best part of the clickwheel scroller is that you could adjust the song you were listening to or skip to something else without even having to take the iPod out of your pocket. With a touch screen interface we lose the ability to adjust our music on the fly. A touch screen requires users to actually pull the iPod out and look over the screen before making a move. This also brings up something else. How is apple going to handle scratches and smudges. We all heard about the complaints a few months back about scratched screens and Nano plating, wouldn’t the same problem come up with a full screen player where the only interface option requires that you touch the screen? I know I’d find watching LOST kind of hard with my fingerprints blocking out half of the show. And a stylus is out of the question. That just adds to the hassle of having to carry around extra components. Sure Apple could include a free glove and cleaning solution, but how ridiculous would you look walking down the street wearing a white glove pressing invisible buttons on your full screen iPod? There would be one upside to distributing gloves with this new iPod; Michael Jackson may be willing to do a commercial or two for them.

why is everyone against the touch screen aspect of this?

since you can't use a clickwheel while in your pocket anyway, unless you are changing the volume, it would be more efficient to keep a touchscreen clickwheel and move an ipod remote with volume control to the headphones, like what we can buy now as an accessory...

#425515

i use the click wheel while its in my pocket....to tweak the volume on my ipod as im walking....though i want a click wheel remote but it seems that it will get in the way (wires)....maybe a wireless belt clip will do....

A good feature would be that if the ipod is in your pocket, on hold, the clickwheel still came up when you touched the screen? maybe two holds? my sony k800 when the keys are locked still responds to certain keys when playing music

basically this thing...with iPod touchscreen...so you don't scratch it in your pocket

apple-ipod-remote.jpg

all problems solved...except the fact that you've gotta put iPod upside down in your pocket so the dock connector can fit

if you're still not happy, theres always the shuffle

#425522

agreed. Gosh why is everyone so picky? A touch screen ipod would be the S**T

#425531

i agree, i hope this new iPod destroy's w/e hope the zune has.

#425540

zune looks decent, but it seems its the beginning of copyright protection everywhere...funny thing how playsforsure doesnt seem to be able to work on it :)

i like the bluetooth function, but at places where the use of transmitting equipment is restricted, you can't use the zune but you can use the ipod.

I really hate the idea of a full screen ipod.

It's completely ridiculous, and apple would probably loose most of it's market because, I think that it's safe to say, that a majority of people are opposed to the idea.

Unless you're one of the people that think that apple can do no wrong (like the iTV interface).

#425611

Well, it looks like a bad photoshop.

Honestly, Apple could kick the Zune's ass even without all these features. Just their reputation alone will be enough.

But I don't think "iPhone" will get through the forest of cell phones there are already.

And touch screen... Well, it's a nice idea, although not very original, but you can't use the touch screen like you use the touch wheel.

I have a Nintendo DS, and I can tell you, don't put your fingers on it too much.

I DO think however, that an iPhone with a touchscreen could be very original. You know, it would save space (no keyboard).

This looks pretty fake in my eyes though. I mean, they just brought out Gen 5.5.

Not that that's a good thing, the new firmware messed up my iPod.

#425821

its all speculation at the moment.....theres nothing to call fake as theres no real hard eveidence....looks like a nice idea though....but i have to say apple isn't as predictable as people are now setting them out to be>the new ipod could be released tomorrow for all we know....you can never tell with apple.....they might surprise you

So, is that an iPod in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

They better do something really cool. Apple's upgrades have not been stunning as of late. As it is, if I want to upgrade from my 2G iPod, I am going with the 4th Gen (click wheel, B&W screen).

#425864

ive got a fourth gen and i have to say the build quality from the 1st 2nd and 3rd still remains....these 5 gen ones seem a bit cheap (might be because the price has dropped significantly....also theyre more profitable now)

I got that baby, I just need to cut it up and shorten the cord, and its perfect.

@zondajag, my 5gen ipod is durable, reminds me of my original gameboy actually.

Especially, I have a habit of waving my hands when talking, and I often have an ipod in said hands.. (its hit a wall more then just a few a times)

For all you who are too sensitive about supposed Touch-Sensitive interface... this might be interesting...

#426514

That makes a lot more sense; especially since the only way I could think of a touch screen working is if it had some kind of cover (like a flip-top), and I know Apple wouldn't like that.

I hope the finger's the correct size too, because that might get uncomfortable if the touch bezel is too small.

Also it appears the bezels work on the side too, might be nice if there's an option for it to only accept presses if you're holding it.

#426576

nice idea, would kill the ipodgames though...

#426579

i guess it would....or maybe if they do it right they can give it nintendo ds qualities....then youll hours of fun then lol

this is worth checking out!! -T/F

If anyone has bothered looking at the patents filed for, im sure I saw apple had filed one that allowed the ipod to detect your finger before it touched the screen, and it damn well would be able to be used like the click wheel, Think about it!

As for the mobile phone... LOOK AT HOW PEOPLE FLOCKED TO THE MOTOROLA RAZR!!!

Are you kidding? At the hype ipod has created, imagine how good a designed phone would be for the world of designer phone seeking people. Every company seems to be trying it but no one can get it right, and considering the iPod is already iconic, Im pretty sure people would flock to the stores to buy an iPhone.

We are all just waiting on Apple. My hope is they fill expectations next release, and dont dissapoint us. I want something new from them, and I have great faith they will provide.

#427888

I agree with Lukevink.... I've been fully satisfied with k750i and even though it can do Mp3 and stuff, I simply CAN'T part with my iPod. Even though it's big brother k800 has been teasing me since long, I'm holding my money for iPhone. If it comes out I'll be sure to jump on it, so that I can phone+iPod without having two devices. Since I use phone as just phone (take calls/make calls & sometimes SMS/MMS) I don't care if apple phone isn't a smartphone.

#427893

i personally like the click wheel, since my nano is almost always in my pocket, it is so easy to tweak volume, and songs since i have memorized the order. i cannot imagine the scratch factor on the touch screen. Now, if it was a touch screen so called "iPhone", that would be a different story. But, I digress. Jobs will do what he wants to do.
