Unresponsive icon?

i have a shortcut to one of my folders on the dock. when i click on it, nothing happens. this hasn't happened to me before until the latest build, no, not the nightly build either. when i hold down the icon, it will show me the files and folders that are in the target folder, so i know that the link is correct. also, sometimes when i get frustrated and click on the icon over and over, the folder will eventually pop up. is there a fix to this that i'm not able to see?
