Hi guys (and girl).
I recently made the (long overdue) transition from CRT to LCD and got myself a Samsung SyncMaster 970P, and it's great, except from the fact that I'm less than impressed with the way it displays text.
I played around with the ClearType Tuner Powertoy without it making much of a difference.
I was hoping that some of you maybe could steer me in the right direction of some software, or share some tips and tricks etc.
As always, any input will be much appreciated.

Most LCD Monitors need to have the system display resolution increased. I do not know what your settings are on at the moment, but 1024x768 is not ideal, you should ramp it up even further and that way the display is crisper and clearer.
Obviously it also depends on your display card as well as the quality of the monitor, but I use an extensive range of monitors from 17in to cinema display and they all function well - but they do often prefer it if the screen-res is lifted
also turn the frequency of the monitor up...anything above 70hz will be great...also go through the graphics card diagnostic to improve visual quality....what graphics card do you have?

I have a WinFast A7600 GS TDH graphics card connected to the display with a DVI cable.
Changing the monitor frequency has no effect on text readability, in my case, neither does up'ing the display resolution (from the 1280 x 1024 I'm currently using.
I tried with a couple of my older graphic cards as well, not to mention with another LCD, but the result is the same.
Could this have something to do with my Lucida Grande fonts, maybe I'm not using the proper ones?
To check the font carity you need to ensure that other display items are sharp. Look at any of the other frames in your display. e.g. if you run Safari or firefox, look at the edges of the frame (not the font - the window edge) and check too see if anything is 'soft'. Check also the edges of the screen/display to see if you have any drop-off in focus at the edges and/or bleeding at the edges of items - i.e. a fine, ghosted 'echo's" of red or blue around the edge of frames or fonts
If you can eliminate the hardware componant from the problem, then you might find the font is the problem. There are plenty of mac style fonts to use so I doubt you will have any difficulty changing yours.
Thanks for all your help, Raats. I have to say that all other display items are perfect. The main problem is the some what blurry text/fonts. I'm going to play around with some drivers to see if this alleviates the problem. Maybe I'm just being to picky.

It took me a while to get used to a 17" LCD compared to a 21" CRT
reinstall or get new video drivers?
