A deskmod magazine - Need opinions on the topic

I made this today, with an old idea I had a few days ago.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41258278/

I have the idea to start a project with a few ppl around... with something similar to this, as an online magazine. A monthly release. Free, of course. The format will be a PDF file, with interactive sections, links, etc. The design will be made by meh :P

I know the fact of people can get anything for free on the web, but making a magazine with dedicated articles, featured interviews, sneek peaks, beta reviews, skins, etc. could have a good result on it.

I would like to get some opinions regarding this idea :)

And if its possible, a few PMs if you want to be part of the 1st number, possibly going to appear in two months.

That's a niice design.. you have a great idea. I hope it becomes reality.

When I read it I thought Shapeshifter Universal was finally released (non-beta).. oh well I'll wait. :D

That is an absolutely top design Khalua. Brilliant concept as well.

I for one would purchase it if the publication content is as polished as the design...

Bravo!

Awesome ideia m8 :D

The cover does look very nice. But I think you would have difficulty sustaining it. By that i mean there is only so much to write about the customising "scene", and you might find yourself running out of ideas, or patience, after a few editions unless you really plan it, get input from a lot of different people, and produce regular features.

Of course the market is far too small and dispersed to actually print, but PDFs aren't user friendly, and websites already are already the best medium for this topic, so that's another issue to consider.

Nice work as a concept though. Keep going, i'm sure plenty of people will appreciate it.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys!

@CDi2: Thanks man, I need those comments! I'll be working a bit on the idea and I will try at least with one number. Everything U said is true, but still, a virtual magazine, with a real kicka$$ design, shall make the difference.

For the die-hard modder it would be completely awesome. But the one thing that would keep it from ever happening is ..... by the publication time most everything written about would be obsolete. With the exception of themes by Stephanka and the like. hahahahah

You have my support Bud :D

It's cool. I don't think you'll have very much to post about every month due to the lack of themes and such, in my honest opinion. Of course, it's coming from me and I only see "desktop modding" as a fun little side hobby.

You could start out small, and maybe if you get the serious themers interested, have a feature spotlight on someone. A monthly release would be good, hopefully enough time to collect up material.

It sounds like a nice idea.

Too bad the Teknidermy ezine hasn't been updated in almost forever.

i guess it'll be nicer if u could do it on a broader ascpect...

not only deskmodding....

if so u can have more ideas blooming up...

you can include skinning guide...

guide on making icons...

tutorial n stuff like that...

even photoshop stuff that would be biased to deskmodding....

just my 3cents

#424075

as you can see its not only deskmod its about xp and osx, maybe when vista comes out you can talk about that? there are reviews for diff software too, and hey kahlua your great at photoshop, maybe a few guides? hope all goes well buddy

Wow. This is sounding promising now. But, so you don't run out of material too fast, maybe make it a quartely mag.
