Middle Button not working in Firefox

I'm a big Firefox fan. I purchased a Logitech USB mouse (just the basics) over a year ago, and it was working fine. But recently, my computer started crashing big time. I did a quick Google and found out that it could be my mouse driver being out-of-date. So I downloaded the new MouseWare from Logitech's website. The crashes have stopped (for now... we'll see in a month if the crashes have been decreased or eliminated), but now I've got a major problem.

I used to be able to load links in a new tab by clicking on them with the scroll wheel/middle button, and close tabs the same way. Now, I can't seem to do that. And instead of the Firefox scroller popping up when I click the middle button, I get the ugly Logitech one.

I don't want the crashing to start again, but I don't want to reduce my internet productivity.

I've tried all of the usual things. I've set my scroll wheel to Unassigned, AutoScroll, Universal Scroll and Middle Button, and nothing works.

Please help!

set it to generic button

You don't need to use the drivers that get supplied by Logitech with the mouse.

I use the generic Windows HID drivers and it works perfectly on USB. Not sure about PS/2.

search about "uberoptions" logitech drivers.. its amazing

OR if you want simply dont use drivers..

I've tried all of those things... nothing works.

I miss my middle button!

You know what's weird? The crashes haven't stopped (just recovered from one), but for some obscure reason or another, it fixed itself! I didn't do squat!

Thanks guys.

@ArtOfGlorY, thanks for the Tab Mix Plus thing. It didn't do anything here, but I love the extension.

Mod, you can lock this.

EDIT: My computer is friggen bipolar. It stopped working again. I don't have a clue of why this changed again, but it's weird.

So, please don't lock this. Any more help would be appreciated.

gee that narrows it down :P

tells us more details, like what youre doing when it crashes, any error messages etc.

Nothing seems to be related. It crashes at weird times, and the error message is usually the PFL_LIST_CORRUPT (I think that's it anyways... I can't find my sticky note which has the list of error messages). The software that's open at the time is always different and sometimes it crashes when nothing's running (and I mean nothing, apart from crucial Windows processes and anti-virus software).

It's really weird.
