installing

Hi,

I decided to give Flyakiteosx a go, only after reading all the problems this program is causing when you want to uninstall it I had some installing questions before I hit the install button.

The first thing I'm not so sure about is the componentsscreen were you have to select what to install. Are there some options you have to consider not checking here for safety reasons? Like the "shell32.dll" option for instance as I am not sure what it does.

Or do I just check the whole lot and won't it matter?

I am running winxp home with SP2.

Also, how many memory does it use if you install the whole package, doe you need a powerfull system (I have 3,2gig intel processor and 1gig of memory) and won't it slow down your computer considerably?

Thanks for any advice.

i think most of the uninstall problems are related to systems the have "xp rot." if your system is clean and in good working order, installing and uninstalling shouldn't be a problem. YMMV.

flyakite uses no more resources than your system normally does. the way it works is: the flyakite installer "injects" resources into dll's and exe's and does not actually replace the dll/exe. savvy? so, if there's a picture of a printer in shell32.dll, flyakite replaces that picture, instead of the whole dll.

have fun!

You should avoid installing the Multi-plugin that comes with flyakite. It has a tendency to crash when installed through FlyakiteOSX, even on clean systems (such as mine). Instead, if you are using iTunes and want multiplugin, install it separately using its own installer. Personnaly I've been running FakOSX since V1, and never had real problems.

However some resources will be used from the bundled programs (such as YzShadow, uberIcon, Winroll) although the amount is insignificant. I only close some of them to run heavy games, like Oblivion, cause I have 512MB RAM...

oops...peskat is right. i forgot about the 3rd party apps bundled with flyakite.

Thanks a lot for your answers.

About the 3rd party apps, are all programs under "software" to be installed seperately or does it only concernes the Itunes multiplug in? will object dock, rk launcher or tiger system prefs cause any problems if not installed seperately?

AFAIK, only multiplugin has been reported to cause issues during the installation... Tiger System Preferances is OK for me, and I can't be sure about RK or OD... although I would avoid installing 2 dock apps as redundant...
