It's (American) Football season...

If this is considered spam, please delete it. I don't know if anyone else here enjoys college foosball but I found this quite humoriuos. Mainly because I'm from the south and college football is religion in the Fall.

Planning for the fall football season in the South is radically different than up North.

Stadium Size:

NORTH: College football stadiums hold 20,000 people.

SOUTH: High school football stadiums hold 20,000 people.

Fathers:

NORTH: Expect their daughters to understand Sylvia Plath.

SOUTH: Expect their daughters to understand pass interference.

Campus Decor:

NORTH: Statues of founding fathers.

SOUTH: Statues of Heisman trophy winners.

Homecoming Queen:

NORTH: Also a physics major.

SOUTH: Also Miss America.

Heroes:

NORTH: Rudy Giuliani

SOUTH: Archie & Peyton Manning

Getting Tickets:

NORTH: 5 days before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus.

SOUTH: 5 months before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus, make a large financial contribution and put name on a waiting list for tickets.

Friday Classes After a Thursday Night Game:

NORTH: Students and teachers not sure they're going to the game, because they have classes on Friday.

SOUTH: Teachers cancel Friday classes because they don't want to see the few hung over students that might actually make it to class.

Parking:

NORTH: An hour before game time, the University opens the campus for game parking.

SOUTH: RVs sporting their school flags begin arriving on Wednesday for the weekend festivities. The really faithful arrive on Tuesday.

Game Day:

NORTH: A few students party in the dorm and watch ESPN on TV.

SOUTH: Every student wakes up, has a beer for breakfast, and rushes over to where ESPN is broadcasting "Game Day Live" to get on camera and wave to the idiots up north who wonder why "Game Day Live" is never Broadcast from their campus.

Tailgating:

NORTH: Raw meat on a grill, beer with lime in it, listening to local radio station with truck tailgate down.

SOUTH: 30-foot custom pig-shaped smoker fires up at dawn. Cooking accompanied by live performance by "Dave Matthews' Band," who come over during breaks and ask for a hit off bottle of bourbon.

Getting to the Stadium:

NORTH: You ask "Where's the stadium?" When you find it, you walk right in.

SOUTH: When you're near it, you'll hear it. On game day it state's third largest city.

Concessions:

NORTH: Drinks served in a paper cup, filled to the top with soda.

SOUTH: Drinks served in a plastic cup, with the home team's mascot on it, filled less than half way with soda, to ensure enough room for bourbon.

When National Anthem is Played:

NORTH : Stands are less than half full, and less than half of them stand up.

SOUTH: 100,000 fans, all standing, sing along in perfect four-part harmony.

Commentary (Male):

NORTH: "Nice play."

SOUTH: "Dammit, you slow sum***** - tackle him and break his legs."

Commentary (Female):

NORTH: "My, this certainly is a violent sport."

SOUTH: "Dammit, you slow sum***** - tackle him and break his legs."

Announcers:

NORTH: Neutral and paid.

SOUTH: Announcer harmonizes with the crowd in the fight song, with a tear in his eye because he is so proud of his team.

After the Game:

NORTH: The stadium is empty way before the game ends.

SOUTH: Another rack of ribs goes on the smoker, while somebody goes to the nearest package store for more bourbon, and planning begins for next week's game.

HAHAHA.......soo true, i love it

Gotta love that Southern mentality, down here in Florida :P

Futbol! (Americano!) Futbol! (Americano!) Futbol! (Americano!)

I love football. Unfortunately, the younger the teams are, the more I hate it. I watch NFL every weekend (3-0 in Fantasy Football baby!). I watch college when a favorite team of mine is on (Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Iowa State). But I never liked High School football, at all. Being in band (combined with marching band), I had a hatred that is obligated for us to have against them and cheerleaders. I have a special place in my heart for Drumline (except for the ending, totally unrealistic).

Back to the OP. It was funny, but I can't relate to either side.

I played highschool football last year then i got tired of it and this year i feel so lazy...

Cheerleaders are lovely except when they go on a ramble about their nails >_< and that nonstopping laugh that some of them have

I made a cheerleader cry in class when I went to High School :) . I consider it one of my better accomplishments of that time in my life.

As being I live in the town of Acclaimed Coach John McKissick, I have to agree. EVERY Summerville game is packed, you have to arrive 2 hrs. early to get a seat, and there are more lights on than a small neighborhood!

I love the south!

Where'd u go to school?
In St. Louis, Misery (read, "Missouri"). The varsity football made it to state finals my senior year. I made a $20 bet we would loose the game. Voila! I was $20 richer. :)

Yeah, but our futbol is better because there is limited instances where it is legal for a foot to be touching the ball . The name for your sport actually makes sense, who wants that? :P

#420853

Actually history tells us that the natives played a mixed sport of all so it would be something like football-throwinbasket-ball

Truth is no one knows what sport was invented first :P Both are good

#420970

I thought you guys were a bit slow rofl cuz the football season (teh real football) started like 2 months ago, but it turned out that you guys were talking about YOUR football :(

#420975

Futbol Americano...

#420976

College football. Its a religion in the southern states. Much like how futbol is a religion in europe and the rest of the world.

I must say, I am quite glad I don't have to be religious about soccer. It can be a boring sport, IMO.
