There has got to be a way to turn this damn thing off, right? I've done a couple searches on the board and google, but all I come up with is some .msstyle (re: creating themes) and app options, but no instructions on how to simply get it to go away.
Apologies if I'm just being dumb, but anyone know the answer?
Well if you are using a windows classic style you can use Tclock to get rid of the grippers and if you are using a msstyle you need to modify it in stylebuilder so that the grippers are the same color/gradient as the taskbar or you can use some other msstyle that has them hidden by default design.

That's not impossible you have to renamed the files
The gripper shows up when you "autohide" the taskbar, locked or unlocked. It goes away again if you disable autohide (...which is really annoying).
Note: Should have been more clear I suppose, I was referring to the gripper that runs horizontal beneath or above your taskbar depending on where it's positioned.
Thanks for the input. I've just put some magic pink on it with StyleBuilder and Paint. I was just hoping there was a checkbox somewhere to tick or untick.
That's the same gripper that appears when you unlock the taskbar. There is no option to disable it, but I think that instead of modifying the msstlyes you could try using a program that autohides the taskbar. The best one to me is Taskbar Activate (freeware), say goodbye to taskbar gripper.
