Reliable icon program to change all OS icons?

Hi People,

maybe this thread was already posted in some kind, but I can´t find anything about that.

Does somebody of you know an application which changes the all the icons that you

wanted to change for 100%? I did not...

The thing is, that I want to change my Drive-, Filetype-Icons without using 10 different applications. (i.e. Active Icons for the Drives)

I haven´t found a reliable Program yet for the Filetype-Icons.

With IconPackager it is possible to add Filetypes in the Icons & Tab.

If I then add all my icons that I chose for each filetype I apply them and the result is that the

filetypes are mixed through in a not explainable way or some icons are just reset to it´s normal state.

With iPhile it is the same...

With TuneUp Utilities the Icons seem to be changed quite accurate the way you wanted them to change. The only disadvantage is that you can´t add more filetypes.

I didn´t try IconTweaker for 100%, but it seems to be OK too, but the PlugIns just give the possibilty to change some general filetypes, the Archives Icons for example WinRAR and the MS Office icons. Would be glad if there will be a possibility to add individual filetypes.

So my question now:

Does someone know an application which changes the Icons for 100% without any barriers?

thanks a lot,

greetz...

Try this old skool method:

in windows explorer click "Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types Tab"

You should see a list with full of filetypes.

Click and select the ones you want to change it's icon and then click "Advanced" button.

When "Edit File Type" box appears click "Change Icon" button.

Then browse and select the icon you want for desired filetype and click "OK"

Windows can read icons *.ico *.icl *.dll *.exe files.

Hope this helps ;)

the main reason i forgot, why I posted this thread is that I want to save themes with my filetypes:

because changing 30 filetypes doesn´t make fun always...

hope somebody has another solution......

but thx anyway ArchDevil!

Well you could also use a custom Shell32.dll

That would change *most* of the windows default icons.

the best of the best I found so far is IconsetXP

The only problem I have with every icon app besides IconPackager is the complete lack of ability to change shell folder icons.... Open / Save dialogs, folder panes and dropdown lists all keep the same old tired-looking manilla folders.

Iconpackager is the only program I've found so far which changes THESE too with zero effort. But after what it did to my registry, I'm not to keen on every trying it again.

Has anyone been successful with something else?
