Vista RC1 Review

Wha ?? No daemon tools ? Now i need to buy a dvd reader (mine's broken) to read and break my original games ?

Meh, i'm gonna stay on XP while waiting for money for a Mac.

If microsoft goes on like that with super duper intrusive security Apple is gonna sell Macs :P (not that much but still many).

Vista's precedent betas weren't bad, but that protection sucks for me. (I tried from Longhorn alphas to Vista RC1)

But tell me the difference between a Win32API and GNU Make ?

Make if for compiling, API's for enginerring.

Say your 9 year old boy to click on compile menu, he can do it too.

I'm nearly 15 and I know windows API but i haven't made anything for linux right now.

Linux is Linux, Windows' Windows, Mac is the future :P

Ah, I see.

Kinda makes me wish I did a little more research those many years ago, when I first heard about the Longhorn project.

Thanks for the help. ^^

==========

EDIT:

I installed RC1 today... Holy crap do I love it. Things now run so much smoother and leaner than they did on my XP drive. I am dual booting, but it's so dissapointing that all of my really good apps are on my XP drive, so I have to keep switching.

Oh well

I guess when I want to goof around and push my Vista drive to the limits, I'll switch back.

I have to say I am really impressed. And I also want to say that to anyone who is knocking Vista before even trying it: Bad idea. I really suggest giving it a shot. Because that's truely the ONLY way you'll ever decide if you like something or not. (I used to hate Macs, but when I started using Panther in my art class, I fell in love with it. So that just goes to prove that you can never be too sure with yourselves.)

I'm not ready to write the second half of my review on vista RC1 yet,

But I would like to note:

I'M REALLY TIRED OF THE 3D, CANDY COLORED, BABY POWDERED, NURSERY ROOM, BIG EYED FUZZY WUZZY, CHILDS THEME!

I mean could they make it any more childish, there's so much going on, and it makes me want to rip my hair out, it's like they are entertaining childern at microsoft, so they put all kinda bubbly glossy colored crap all over the place!

don't get me wrong it's nice for a little while, but when your trying to do something really productive, like website design, it gets really anoying...

I tought XP was bad... boy was i wrong, this is worse!

that's my update!

Change themes.

I hate XP's Fisher Price interface (Luna) when it came out... still do. I refuse to load it.

I don't use any eye candy (themes) when testing... just get's in my way.

...APIs shouldn't be aimed at 9 year olds but should be created for professionals...

...I wouldn't use a piece of code written by your average 9 year old in the first place....

P-lease, computers for professionals? Are you kidding me? Computers are for and because of THE USER.

And if you used one for as much time as I do and with the intencity that I do you'd have the uncompareable experience of building your own OEM from XP to _minimize_the_time_required_for_an_unavoidable_reinstal. And if you would try to build that custom installation (just look at how many distros linux guys have -- anyone can build one), messed with the settings/registry/software-packages-unpackages etc you'd know what _not_ to call an _operating_ system coz' it ain't one. It's a dumbifying system. It's chaos provoking and inviting system. And my native language is Russian, I live in Israel, am a jew, and we have one official Apple retailer that over-prices Macs x1.5 presicely, AND THAT makes me SO A.N.G.R.Y. ®

......

I'm working on Vista RC1 now for 1 week and I've got to say that's vista has a new 'feeling': With the Live!-ID (for which I first didn't want to register but I had to in order to get the key), there's kinda mac feeling on vista because a lot of programms work togehter and they wprk great. The Live Messenger is ok but not perfect. But the Beta of Windows Live! desktop mail is really a big step for microsofts lifestyle OS development.

The new sidebar lets me instantly write a new mail using the contacts widget, the live desktop mail app appears faster than I ever thought it to be able to. The search of windows which is nearly as fast as spotlight is a great help which I'm already missing now on windows xp.

And it's fast - you do not have to run hundred of any protecting programms in the background, vista already includes them. At the moment I'm not running any "none microsoft" firewall, but I have the feeling to need one because I do not really trust microsoft concerning the privacy policy.

I just wanted to tell you that the RC1 convinced me. Using XP for a long span of time, I was getting more and more bored because of the progress of the Mac OS. But now I know that vista isn't as far away as XP.

Perhaps I'm gonna wait a few months before I'll buy my Mac Book .. :)
