No 5.1 Sound in iTunes 7

I have used to enjoy 5.1 sound while playing ordinary stereo music in iTunes. But now with version 7 installed it is gone. WMP 11 still plays music through all 6 channels, but iTunes uses two front channels only. Which is soooo sad.

I have tried messing with QuickTime Audio settings and with Creative CMSS settings for my Audigy 4 sound card. But no result.

Uninstalling QT and installing version 7.0.4 made iTunes unlaunchible.

Anyways after some time of trying to make iTunes believe I have installed QT 7.1 and not old good QT 7.0 I finally found solution.

I have owerwrote QT 7.1 files with these ones from QT 7.0:

QuickTimeQTSystemQuickTimeAudioSupport.qtx

QuickTimeQTSystemQuickTimeAudioSupport.Resources

And voila! It plays 5.1 again and no complaints about old version of QT.

Thought someone else could have the same problem.

Could be, but wouldnt that mean It would jump when I downgrade to iTunes 6 aswell?

I have the same card and I noticed the problem with 5.1. Could you upload those two files to sendspace.com or another file host? Thx.

What you have to do, is uninstall iTunes AND Quicktime. Then run the iTunes 6.0 Installer which will reinstall them both. Now what you need to do is get those 2 files from your quicktime folder, and Copy them to your desktop.. Then install iTunes 7, and copy those 2 files over... You could be fine then.

I wouldnt recomend uploading those folders either, They proberly will contain all the data with their audio settings, so wouldnt work..

You can always try :)

Hope this helps

EDIT: This DOESNT Fix the Jumping problem.. :(

Heh.. thanks, but I installed it on my bro-in-laws machine and grabbed them there. It does fix the 5.1 issue but it still stutters. Hopefully they'll have an update soon.

Here's a more recent version of the files (English only) . probably doesn't make a diff.
