i was wondering about the new feature "get album artwork" in iTunes ... does it download a 600x600 images to every song you apply it to? i dont have an itunes music store account and i think i cant even get one because there is no store for my country, is it possible to download the artworks somehow even without an account?
iTunes Artwork feature
I'm interested in this too, so can anyone please help?
Yes it adds artwork to every song in your library and no, thanks to Apple's idiotic "we don't care about "other" people" policy you can get album art only if you have an iTunes account.
this program works best for me: TuneSleeve
i know its 3rd party software, but it will collect all your albums, find which dont have artwork, then try to automatically download the artwork for each album. some albums arent found but it has its own search feature so u can drag and drop artwork to albums.
hope this helps.
The point is, all other album art sources are crap compared to iTunes and no app can rectify it
Maybe on the PC side of things, CoverScout is a crazy good app for Album art, gets it from iTunes, Amazon and the Google image search.

eh? i guess im not following you here. does itunes have some kind of magical super-powered album covers that cant be found anywhere else on the internet?
similar to tunesleeve, the search feature uses the google image search. but you can get album art from anywhere and just drag it onto the album in tunesleeve, so the image source is kind of a moot point. (unbe)
by no means am i saying this is an amazing app or something, its just one ive come across that works well for me and im using it as an example.
A little something extra I found out is that you can get album art from iTunes no matter if the album is in your country's iTunes Store or not. As long as it's on a single country's iTunes Store it will download it.
For example I am in the U.S. and Marit Larsen's Under The Surface is not in the U.S. store but it is on the Norwegian store and it downloaded the album art for it.

Take a cover you got from iTunes, then take a cover you got from Amazon. Now open both images next to each other. Take a look. See the difference?
If you don't, go get some glasses ![]()
okay but the point here is that you can get your album art from anywhere on the internet, not only amazon. sure itunes has quality covers, but the internet is a vast place my friend ![]()
which then we could argue about the time required finding such a cover comparable to itunes. but really i hardly ever see my album art any bigger than 100px so im not too worried if they arent all amazing quality.
The point is that itunes now does it without the need for a third party app (although I do love tunesleve). The one thing I hate about the Amazon/Google images is that heaps of them have a parental advisory sticker and if there isn't a *clean* version you stuck with it.
The one thing that it has got me to do is clean up my album names so that itunes can match them easier.
can i get a store account for coverart and NOT buy any songs?
lets just say I get my songs elsewhere- totally legitimate CDs ive bought of course.
EDIT- those programs look good... anyone know a free one for mac tho?...
ps- UNBE how old are you?... just out of random curiousity.

Yes if you give them your credit card info
ok... i feel so reluctant to give out credit card details... but hey its Apple right? i can trust them... ![]()
well millions of other people have, i see no problem
What if you are in say Florida..and the store tells you that there is no store for "this country" O_o, has anyone else had this problem?
There's this one site that literally grabs the protected URL from iTunes and extracts the artwork.
Too bad they got busted ![]()

itunes has parental advisory stickers on them too. i just got an album cover using the new itunes7 with one. and your stuck with it as well, cause itunes doesnt give you choices unlike 3rd party apps that let you pick where it comes from ![]()
another annoying thing is that the itunes store doesnt carry some music i listen to, so therefor no album cover for it.
You don't need to have a credit card to sign up for an iTunes account--or at least you didn't a few years ago. On that note, anyone know of a good Mac program for adding artwork to songs/albums?

How did you join??? ... via iTunes program, in person (physically buying itunes cards at the shopping center) or via apple.com????
I want that album art bad
... and dont want to do the credit card thing... which it prompted me to do when I clicked "sign up" in the iTunes store (step 3)...
looks like you guys have some other issues connected to the topic ... just wanted to ensure the answer on my question ... there is no other way to get the covers from iTunes store without the account right? well is it possible to get one if i live in a country that has no itunes store and credit cards are also from the country?
Ah, alright. I joined with a gift certificate--I believe if you buy one of those, you can set up an account without a credit card.

Just thought someone might want to know....
I stuffed up my database, so I deleted all my songs and then added all 4500 of them from my hard
drive again to a new iTunes database. After adding all the songs, my iTunes starts GETTING ALL THE
ALBUM ART. Huh? Very cool, because now I have 4500 songs with album art. No idea Why.... for I have
no account, I live in Singapore...
