We need a thread discussing where Aqua is heading. Since today Apple released the new iTunes which used to be Brushed/Aqua and is now Something/Something... So what are your guy's thoughts? Good the bad and the ugly?
I noticed Apple is going for a more simple look, more gradients and less detail. There are alot of vista-ish icons inside of iTunes resources... and that new iTunes icon just sucks when it sits in the dock.

Hah, I haven't really tried out the new iTunes (don't know how to get it on Windows XP), but if Aqua is heading for a more streamlined look, I'll definetely support it. IMO it looks more user-friendly and a lot easier on the eyes, and I think Apple is heading in more of a designer direction with Aqua, seeing as the UI is more simplistic, and with additions like Time Machine, desingers and coders would drool over this.
I don't really like the new look. But I'll get used to it for sure.
I guess I'm TOO used to Aqua. Change is never bad though.
I have not download the new Itunes but in general ,i like the overall feeling.
And if you dont like the new icon be prepare from what i see, Apple is going to a Blue style, more Glossy and less Aqua.
I think is cool, looks like leopard is going to have a more unified style

I didn't like the look of iTunes 7.
The icon looks a lot like it'd a Vista icon. The green colour matched the colour of the iTMS (now iTS) icon.
Also, the whole interface looks weird on Windows. It's a mixture of grey (on top and bottom parts) and bluish grey (left pane, scrollbars, ticks, etc). Picking one of the two greys would result in a much better interface.
The buttons at the bottom could not be more boring than these ones.
There are few things to desire in this interface. Compared with the brushed metal theme, this one looks like it's heading to the Windows 98 aesthetics (God forgive me for what I've said)
I think the UI is heading more towards the style that the Pro Apps such as Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Motion and Soundtrack have been like for years, dark greys, simplish layouts, and lots of graphite.
If I had to name it (the new iTunes interface), I'd call it "Cool Steel". I think that best describes it. I rather like the minimalistic nature. It's anything but flashy... I can see how one might call it mundane... but for now... I'll give it a thumbs-up.
I really don't see the problem with the redesign. From a UI perspective, it's much better. As far as icons go, they just switched colors around into a sort of bluish metal look.
I just wish it was possible to download cover art images without an iTMS account.

You are rithg the big difference between the new interface and the old is the flashy "look at me, i'm a apple product, look" fortunately apple is changing that with his new interface, is more simple and intelligent.
I like it, Aqua was getting boring 
While the new look of iTunes 7 is kinda mixed bag, I would say that I didn't jump outta chair when I saw it... it's not that downright uhhgly and it's not too flashy (like the WMP11 which screams LOOK AT ME.. I GOT GLOSS AND SHINE ALL OVER).
All in All, I wasn't too impressed with the general button styling and header/footer panes of new iTunes... BUT, once you start using it you get used to it and they do not pose much of a problem...
What really impressed me was the enhancements in the source and list areas. I liked the well organized Source pane, split it in library as per media type.. folders been there for some time now and they are great to use. The best you could ask and get was CoverFlow included in iTunes.
Sometime back I read review on WMP11 by infamous Paul Thurret (that's a correct spelling, right?).... somewhere he stated that iTunes doesn't have ability to visually represent it's library like WMP11 let you browse by Cover Artwork.... NOW, not only iTunes let you list your library by CoverArt, Album wise but a CoverFlow really kicks A** of Visual Representation of WMP11.
So far So good..... Though I was avid lover of Brushed (I am still using Brushed VS on my XP box and on my iBook), I love the new Unified/Streamlined looks Apple is putting on it's apps. Because the gradient and overall feel still gives you Metal and it's cool even when it's without Brushed Texture.... I'd say it still way better than Over Done Glass/Gloss... you know in what !!

Also I didn't noticed it before but the New icon is definitely not as cool as the old green one... if not ugly. Basically it now matches with iTMS color and represent end user iTMS application + jukebox. It's not that bad, but thank god we can change it to something else. (God I love ability to customize)
I really haven't liked the way Aqua UI has gone since Panther. Tiger introduced too many "plastic" elements (insert standard rant about Mail 2). I still don't like the "streamlined" iTunes, even though I have been using it on my Mac since it's release (whichever version it was). I like the layout of the Source List in iTunes 7, but when icons use to have a realistic look, now feel fake. From the screenshots on Apple.com, they even pulled a Mail and completely changed the Back/Play/Forward buttons to plastic buttons. Even the Aqua Apple logo was replaced in Tiger with a metallic, smooth metal logo. Maybe these graphic changes are to put less strain on the system to draw them. If iTunes 7 is a peek for what coming in Leopard, I am really not going to be happy.
Edit: I just thought of something. The look in iTunes 7 looks like the UI in Linux when I last used it (I forget which distro). I personally don't know anybody that in their right mind would want to emulate the look of Linux.
Been using the new interface now for a time, in general i like how works, except for the new location of some icons.
Scrollbars and vista icons made me throw up...
