I know where I can get substitures for the windows volume display on laptops when you press volume up/down to make it look like the mac one, but is there any way I can get rid of the windows one?

To my knowledge, there is no default Windows Volume Display notification. That must be OEM software--what kind of laptop are you using?

Look around in Windows "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel applet and see if there's anything there from Sony that looks plausible. Keep an eye out for anything with the word "hotkey" in it.
