Emoticons in iChat contact list

Does anyone know how make it so that ichat won't display the emoticons in the contact list?

My contacts keep putting them in their status messages and it makes my list look funny

Install Chax 1.4.6b.1 or whatever new version.

Then go to the main menu in the bar and select view,

finally uncheck the second option: [==] Show Text Status,

and no more s

Yeah but I'd like to still see status messages, only showing the emoticon as text
