[help] Restoring System Files

I can't log into Windows. It says shell32.dll has an invalid image or something. Then asked me to contact my system administrator to restore the dll.

How do I do it? Do I boot into dos to replace them (I have a backup)? I have important docs on the laptop, so I wish to not reformat. Or can I use the WinXP CD to restore them?

HELP, this is urgent.

Hold down F8 when booting and hope you had a restore point

To people: System Restore, great invention, use it.

Yes, I have one! hehe. Thanks!

I'll try it now.

Edit: Okay, I dunno what to do after I enter the "XP advance option menu". I can't seem to start in Safe Mode. So what do I do?

more info on the error:

winlogon.exe can't run or something the msgdin??.dll couldn't load.

I tried all the options in in the XP Advance Option Menu (f8 when reboot) but none of them seem to work. Same problem.

never mind, fixed it.

Here's something to help other ****ies if you ever got into this sh##.

Restoring XP system files (when you have backup and you can't log into Windows at all):

You need your XP installation disc. Boot into it, and when you come to the menu, hit R (for Recovery or something).

Enter the info it ask (admin password, etc) and you'll end up in dos. Do your replacement here, by deleting the original shell32.dll and renaming your backup one to it. Or if you backed it up somewhere else, do copy and paste.
