I dont understand how the three primary colors work on devices like TVs, monitors and other screens, displays. How can those three colors create every other color? Why are they called primary? I thought you can get green with blue+yellow. In "nature" the primary colors are red, yellow and blue (RYB), right? They create all the other colors, and then there you have red, green and blue (RGB) on, for example computer monitor, which again create all the other colors. How is that possible? Please someone explain this to me, but have in mind I'm a bit slow learner. ![]()
Primary colors
well, i don't know the entire explanation, but basically, mixing paints is different from mixing light. on a monitor, if r, g and b are all the way up, you've got white. but with paints, r, g and b make black. savvy?
Thanks, I think I understand better now? Basically it's not the same thing one is "colored material" and the other is "colored light". That's why the same rules dont apply for both?

I'm so proud of myself.. learning something new everyday. ![]()
In art class, you learn that the primary colors are RYB. So yes, if you mix pigments of all three, you will get black, and colored light of all three mix to make white.
I was told that televisions, monitors, etc. use green because yellow makes skin turn out too pale on the screen. But I agree, it doesn't seem to make sense that RGB could create white, but it does, so I'm not complaining.
Thank you for contributing Tromoly4130. I too ain't complaining, just wondering. ![]()
If someone can explain it a little more, don't be afraid to share your thoughts/knowledge. ![]()
monitors and TVs use the primary colors of light which are red, green, and blue. paintings and such use the primary pigment colors: red, yellow, and blue.
I know that in RGB:
red + blue = purple
red + green = yellow
blue + green = light blue
red + blue + green = white
hope this is interesting
paints (and everything else we can see) are the complimentary colours of the light falling on them
therefore RGB = white light
but RGB = black paint
when light falls on a "coloured" object it absorbes certain wavelengths of the light, and reflects the others. what it reflects are the colours you see.
from shortest to longest wavelength we have VIBGYOR
I think I'm starting to get it!
Light=wave, different frequency=different color, white light=all colors
Eye can only see one wave or more and pigment colors dont emit light so the pigment is basically blocking or absorbing other colors and what is left is visible color. On computer that is not needed because it emits light in a way that every color is light wave of different freq.? (computers rock!)
The big question is then: How can I print the photo from computer and it turns out just like on a computer screen? Does it get converted RGB->RYB ?
if you don't understand something, why not try a site that specialises in teaching you, like HowStuffWorks. Also, theres always wikipedia.

Thanks! The last post from me here was inspired from the article about light that I found on HowStuffWorks. I just wanted someone to explain it to me in plain words, so I can understand better (it's more interesting this way too). That articles are big, complex, too generalized and not much of a fun. ![]()
Think about this. Is it better to just have the cold facts or to try and figure something out yourself (or with some help) to explain it in your own words which you can comprehend better.
Off topic: Slewed if you dont like thinking or writing in the forums why dont you try a site that specialises in just looking like Pichunter or Pornotube. No flaming intended. ![]()
^^ seriously? none at all? :/
although this is GD, so you can talk about almost anything here
yea i was confused too, its like hitting me on the head with a hammer and saying "no pain intended"
