converting windows icons to linux

hey eveyone,

i was wondering if anyone knew how to convert windows icons to linux. if it helps i have pngs of the icons.

linux uses png's as icons

what you would need to do is make/edit a file called .iconrc and specify which icon should be used for which filetype. you can also set desktop icons separately.

use an existing .iconrc and edit it to your liking

PNG and SVG files are used as Linux icons.

If you want to convert ico files to png files then you can use 'icotools' its a command line based program that can do batch conversion. very useful

erm i had a large pack of xp png's a long time ago, im pretty sure i got it from wincustomize. the png's are at 128*128 i think...

The size doesn't matter, well not much, because if you use only 128x128 those will be scaled down to the needed size.
