McAfee Antivirus 10

Ok, so after my subscription for Norton Antivirus 2002 run out, I ran to Costco and bought McAfee Antivirus 2006 (10) and it came bundled with McAfee Personal Firewall Plus 2006. Now it takes a looooooooooooooooong time for it to start after I turn on the computer. (I mean like 2 minutes until it starts, and I can't do anything until it loads). Also, after it loads, the auto protect virus scanning is disabled, when I precisely asked it to start on startup. Can someone please help me? These two problems are driving me nuts. I would have called Tech Support, but they charge me by the minute.

This could help:

-restart in safe mode

-uninstall McAfee (all and do not restart, symply go to the folder where it was installed and delete it

-using regedit, delete the folder McAffe from Local Machine-Software key

-restart the system and install McAfee again

Usually McAfee AV slows your system and this is normal as it consumes a lot of memory and resources, If you can/want try NOD32 antivrus system, it won't give you any problem at it works smoothly.

sound advice, amadeus. the only thing i would add is: ertai, while you're uninstalling and cleaning up mcafee, make sure you also uninstall and clean up all the old norton crap as well. THEN do the fresh install. and yes, nod32 will give you a much better experience.

I now offically dislike McAfee's software! (But I'm stuck using it until the subscription expires)

It slowed down the whole startup process two days in a row, each time freezing the OS.

This problem was fixed by continuously restarting the computer by pushing the power button, and trying to get on an account to perform a System Restore. Eventually, I get on. So I have a question:

Is is possible to have Windows startup in a CLI (DOS?) and perform a System Restore? Or could I do that in Safe Mode? (I'm trying to get in Safe Mode by pressing F8, but my wireless keyboard doesn't let me use the function keys after a certain point, by then which the log screen has already loaded. Gunna borrow a wired keyboard and try to boot in Safe Mode)

HAH! i just went through a similar problem with my wireless keyboard. turns out, i had forgotten to enable 'usb keyboard' in the bios. i'm gonna guess you're running award bios, right? i'd check that, fer sure...

Err.. I believe I'm using Dell A08 bios. Thanks for the tip though, I'll check it out.
