Well, I guess some visual styles have more than one color scheme and some just have only one. If you have more than one color scheme, then you can switch back and forth to different styles. And the ones that don't have, you can't use any other schemes. Just the default one.

Shellstyles also define things like the way you see explorer windows (with common tasks or not, where they are positionned, the color schemes for them, etc)
If a VS has more than one you can substitute the default one with the others and test them.
