Ok, so I've downloaded the Amora theme for Miranda, but I've been having problems. On the right hand side, there are mail icon and a green orb, but I want to replace it with that contacts avatar, as shown in the image on the right. I also can't see avatars in message windows. Help anyone?

for avatar in message window goto options>message sessions> message window and in avatar options select globally on from the drop down
to show avatar on the contact list goto options>contact list> row items , check show avatar on the avatar tab , go to the far right tab ( extra icons ) and uncheck all
Ok, now there's no green orb or mail icon in the contact list, but no avatar is displayed either. Did I miss something?

Depending on which protocol you are using, you may not be able to view other user's icons. I don't think AIM works at all (at least I haven't had any luck) but I have managed to get avatars for some of my MSN and GTalk buddies.
Which protocols are you using?
I'm just using MSN and Yahoo! And in Options -> Message Sessions -> Message Window under the Avatars tab, I selected "On, if present". However, no avatars appear, but I know they're using them because I saw them when I checked on MSN Messenger.

I think you may want to try downloading a more recent version of Miranda...
You need loadavatars.dll
You may also need to enable avatars for MSN in it's options page. (Not sure about Yahoo!)
For enabling avatars in message window as long as you have loadavatars- scriver and tabsrmm should display them in a small box in the ower right-hand corner. If you want them in your message log you will need to use ieview and a ieview theme that display avatars.
To change icons- try using iconlib.dll or chnge the global protocol icon then under options-> contact list-> general tab-> system tray icons when.... select the tray icon to show global status rather than protocol status.
