i am using photoshop cs on a mac.
when i save images as jpg, upload to web the colours are a lot duller than they were in photoshop. i thought it was just the save for web option that was doing this, so i started using save as, but it didn't make any difference.
i now have the save icc colour profile button ticked and that has made the images look the same within safari, but when i test in camino, firefox or ie on my pc... they are still in different colours.
help?!
Do you want the images to look the same within one system (only on ur mac or pc), or do you want it to look the same on any other pc or mac? Because every app renders images differently, so does every other pc, or mac. Everybody calibrates their screens differently and every manufacturer uses a different icc profile. So i suggest to just narrow it down to your own system. First just make sure that every app u use, is also set to use the same icc profile u used to save the images. I don't know how that goes on a mac, but usually only graphic programs have that flexibility to set the way they render images. As for firefox and IE, sadly they have no way to set the icc profile to render images. I think they just use the system default. Also you should know that saving in jpeg naturally degrades the image quality, because jpeg is a compressed image standard. try saving in a less destructive format like .tiff or .bmp
Think of it this way. On someone elses computer the colours will look completely different anyway so nobody is going to notice 
. I to find colour consistency incredibly frustrating sometimes. All the more so on the web. When you're just designing for print it's much easier to manage the colour because you control the whole process.
I haven't tried it myself but maybe if you turn colour management off in Photoshop, then it may yield more consistency across your system. Failing that, there's a preset "Web Graphics Default" setting. Using that may help. Or you could enhance everything artificially with a Curves adjustment layer 
.
Also, make sure you're not creating the images in CMYK format accidentaly and then saving to jpeg, because then it is likely that the colours will alter.

That might explain why printing was so horrible for me when I took a screenshot on a Mac and printed it from a Windows computer.

Did it look accurate when printed from a Mac?
There are problems with the Mac printer drivers (it's annoying as hell--I'm using an hp LaserJet 1012, networked through a Windows computer), so I really haven't been able to print anything at all. The screenshot looked okay on both the Mac and PC, so I'm not quite sure.

I had problems (on screen banding and other issues) with the video drivers that came with my monitor (philips). Everything was fine after I reinstalled the nvidea drivers tho'.
One question... why would you want to print screenshots?!? Building a catalog?
It was a .comic file Windows couldn't open . It made the most sense to take a screenshot and try printing that instead (since I couldn't get printing to work from the Mac).
