Making Icons

Well I'm becoming pretty good with Photoshop, and up until now have been using it for things such as coloring my artwork, making signatures and avatars, wallpapers, and other misc. digital art. I'm now trying to get into making icons. So does any one have any good tutorials or whatnot to the basics of making icons? Or can someone point me in the direction of another topic containing such materials on this site (I already searched btw)? Thank you. ^^

photoshop, iConworkshop just optimizes the icons, and saves them in a icon format, and adds final touches.

Here's a pretty good tutorial that covers the basics pretty nicely.

It's a tutorial for GIMP but apart from the GIMP-specific keystrokes/menu ordering it should hold pretty true to any graphics editing environment.

no, this is a sketch it can be made on paper so you can have a good idea of what you'll be drawing then you make the icon in ps or illustrator. i prefer illustrator mostly ;-)

lol I just wish I could find one very big, explanatory tutorial (or a series of tutorials) on how to make icons XD. If anyone has that, I would be happy enough to kiss you (but I wont lol).
